Background & Aims: The development of ascites in patients with cirrhosis is associated with a high rate of health care utilization. New models of specialized caregiving support are necessary to optimize its management. The aim of the study was to evaluate the efficacy and financial sustainability of the "Care management check-up" as a new model of specialized caregiving support based on a series of diagnostic facilities performed in real time and on the integrated activity of consultant hepatologists at the hospital unit for outpatients, dedicated nurses, physicians in training and primary physicians, compared to standard care in outpatients with cirrhosis and ascites.

Background: The aim of our study was to evaluate the role of intravascular macrophages in the diagnosis of early and late antibody-mediated rejection (AMR) on endomyocardial biopsies (EMBs).

Methods: We reviewed 1,420 consecutive EMBs from 131 patients and selected 75 C4d+ EMBs. The C4d+ group was compared with a control group (66 patients) matched for age, gender, date of transplantation, follow-up, immunosuppressive regimen and primary heart disease.

This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of cabergoline with added ketoconazole and of the same combination in reverse, using urinary free cortisol (UFC) and late night salivary cortisol (LNSC) levels as biochemical markers of the treatments' efficacy in CD patients.

Objective: Cushing's disease (CD) has an uncertain prognosis because patients achieving remission after transsphenoidal pituitary neurosurgery (TSS) may relapse. We aimed to identify factors predicting relapse, focusing on desmopressin (DDAVP) and corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) tests after surgery.

Materials And Methods: Fifty-seven patients with CD (mean age 36 years) after TSS experienced remission (24 cases), late relapse (LR) (15 cases), or persistent disease (18 cases).

We enrolled consecutive adult patients with chronic end-stage liver disease entering the waiting list (WL) for primary LT (WL group = 337) and undergoing LT (LT group = 220) in the period 2006-2009. Objective: This single-center, prospective study aimed to investigate the technical success and outcome of intentional coverage of the left subclavian artery (LSA) in patients undergoing thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) for traumatic rupture of the aortic isthmus at a tertiary care medical center.

Methods: From January 2005 to June 2011, patients who presented with traumatic aortic transection underwent TEVAR with coverage of the LSA when the distance between the artery and the rupture was <2 cm. At 12, 24, and 72 hours postoperatively, clinical and neurologic evaluation including transcranial Doppler insonation of the brachial artery was performed.

Aims: Antibodies to oxidized low-density lipoproteins (oxLDLAbs) are detectable in the serum of patients with and without atherosclerosis, but it is unclear if they play a pathogenic or a protective role in atherogenesis or if they are simply a marker of atherosclerosis. Therefore, in a prospective cohort study we investigated if oxLDLAbs titer predicts cardiovascular (CV) events in high-risk coronary artery disease patients.

Its occurrence in patients with the surgically correctable aldosterone-producing adenoma (APA) and not in those with bilateral adrenal hyperplasia suggested that the measurement of parathyroid hormone could help in differentiating between these subtypes of PA.
