Understanding the interaction between viruses and ecosystems in areas with or without anthropic interference can contribute to the organization of public health services, as well as prevention and disease control. An arbovirus survey was conducted at Caxiuanã National Forest, Pará, Brazil, where 632 local residents, 338 vertebrates and 15,774 pools of hematophagous arthropods were investigated. Neutralization antibodies of the Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis virus, subtype IIIA, Mucambo virus (MUCV) were detected in 57.

Assistive Technology, in this context, contributes directly to the overcoming of difficulties encountered by people with disabilities in their daily lives, allowing them to receive education and become part of the labor market and society in a worthy manner. Assistive Technology has made great advances in its integration with Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT) devices.

The rapid and disorderly urbanization in the Amazon has resulted in the insertion of forest fragments into cities, causing the circulation of arboviruses, which can involve hematophagous arthropods and free-ranging birds in the transmission cycles in urban environments. This study aimed to evaluate the circulation of arboviruses in free-ranging birds and hematophagous arthropods captured in an Environmental Protection Area in the Belem metropolitan area, Brazil. Birds were captured using mist nets, and hematophagous arthropods were collected using a human protected attraction technique and light traps.

In 2016, three million deaths were attributable to alcohol worldwide and 131.4 million DALYs.

This study aimed to evaluate the health condition of bats from different food guilds captured in two areas with different land use profiles in Brazil and to compare data on the oxidant-antioxidant balance and histopathological changes due to different anthropogenic pressures. Bats were collected from a protected area in Serra do Cipó National Park (SCNP), MG, Brazil, and an area with intense agricultural activity in the municipality of Uberaba (UB), MG, Brazil.

In 2020, the FibroScan-AST (FAST) score was internationally validated as a new tool able to identify patients with steatohepatitis who benefit the most from further therapies, based on liver transient elastography (LTE) findings and serum levels of aspartate aminotransferase (AST). We aimed to identify, in MAFLD patients, which metabolic features may predict a higher FAST score.

Ambient Intelligence utilises computer vision-guided neural networks to continuously monitor multiple datapoints in video feeds, has become increasingly efficient at automatically tracking various aspects of human movement.
Objectives: To assess the feasibility of using Ambient Intelligence to track and quantify allpatient and caregiver activity within a bedspace over the course of an ICU admission and also to establish patient specific factors, and environmental factors such as time ofday, that might contribute to an increased workload in ICU workers.
Hexachlorocyclohexanes (HCHs) have been widely explored as biological compounds during the last century. However, most of them were banned due to their potential toxicity in humans, animals, and the environment. Revisiting HCHs to explore their biological activity while improving key features is valuable and may lead to a new class of pesticides that utilizes the biological response of HCHs without their toxic characteristics.

Background: Muscle mass loss occurs following anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery.
Objective: To compare the gain in muscle strength in the quadriceps and hamstring muscles in patients following anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery, using exercises with and without blood flow restriction.
Methods: This is a randomized controlled trial, in which 50% (n = 14) of the participants were allocated to the intervention group and the remaining 50% (n = 14) to the control group.
Food nutrients and bioactive compounds have been widely explored due to the increased prevalence of chronic non-communicable diseases. Antioxidant supplementation might be a crucial non-pharmacological strategy against oxidative stress. However, although some assays evaluate the antioxidant potential of a particular food or food compound, in vivo responses related to oxidative stress in the body may not be reproduced or directly correlated with in vitro values.

The study of the immunohistochemical expression of ghrelin in the gastric mucosa has already been related to weight loss and can be a promising method to predict the surgical outcome.
Purpose: To analyze the immunohistochemical expression of ghrelin in the gastric mucosa and its correlation with weight loss, comorbidities, and inflammatory changes after sleeve gastrectomy.
Telomere maintenance is key during cancer development. Malignant cells can either use telomerase or an alternative lengthening of telomere (ALT) pathway to maintain their telomere length. In Hodgkin's Lymphoma (HL), the presence of telomerase activation is established.

Methods: methodological study developed in four steps: identification of relevant terms to clinical nursing practice in the rehabilitation of people with spinal cord injury; mapping of selected terms with ICNP® terms; construction of nursing diagnoses statements; mapping of statements constructed with pre-coordinated concepts of the ICNP®.
Results: 241 statements of nursing diagnoses were constructed and categorized according to the self-care requisites of the theory.
Poisoning by avocado (Persea americana) has been confirmed in sheep, goats, dogs, rabbits and ostriches. The clinical signs and lesions are attributed to the acetogenin, persin. In the last decade a large outbreak of Yellow Fever (YF) has been observed in Brazilian Atlantic Forest region, traditionally a non-endemic area. In this scenario, the role of wild mammal species as YF reservoirs can be questioned, especially the hematophagous bat, Desmodus rotundus. So, the objective of this study was to analyze molecularly the presence of the YF virus (YFV) in hematophagous bats during a YF outbreak in Brazil.

Methods And Results: For this randomized clinical trial, we recruited patients aged 60 years or older with T2DM and uncontrolled hypertension. One group (DASH) received only DASH dietary guidance, while the other group (DASHPED) received dietary guidance and encouragement to walk with a pedometer.
Background: Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection may lead to the development of the novel coronavirus disease (coronavirus disease 2019 [COVID-19]). Scarce data are available regarding safety and efficacy of SARS-CoV-2 vaccination in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients, which may present differences between subgroups. Lower humoral immunological response could require additional booster injections.

A wide range of human and pre-clinical studies supports these effects for different plant products containing mixed (poly)phenols (e.g.

This study investigated the additive and non-additive effects of commercially relevant traits for the popcorn crop (grain yield-GY, popping expansion-PE, and expanded popcorn volume per hectare-PV) in different conditions of phosphorus (P) availability in two locations in Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil. Six S lines previously selected for P use-L59, L70, and P7, efficient and responsive; and L54, L75, and L80, inefficient and non-responsive-were used as testers in crosses with 15 progenies from the fifth cycle of intrapopulation recurrent selection of UENF-14, with adaptation to the North and Northwest regions of Rio de Janeiro State.

Deltamethrin (DTM) is a synthetic pyrethroid widely used in the cultivation and management of several crops due to its insecticidal action. Application to crops of pyrethroids such as DTM can result in the exposure of water and fruit consumed by fruit bats having a high pyrethroid content which may be harmful. Therefore the objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of short-term oral exposure of the fruit-eating bats (Artibeus lituratus) to two concentrations of DTM (0.
