Introduction: Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) is increasingly utilized in trauma care, yet its elective use during high-risk surgeries remains unreported.
Case Report: We report a successful instance of prophylactic ECMO support via a Veno-Venoarterial (V-VA) configuration during high-risk surgery in a patient with extensive trauma, including severe thoracic damage and a highly unstable thoracic spine fracture. V-VA ECMO prevented complications such as hemodynamic and respiratory collapse associated with chest compression during the surgical procedure, as the patient should be in a prone position.
Objective: To analyze the association between changes in body adiposity and length of service on a schedule of rotating shifts.
Methods: The study was a cross-sectional investigation conducted during the years 2012, 2015, and 2018, involving individuals engaged in rotating shifts at a company involved in iron ore extraction situated within the Iron Quadrangle region of Minas Gerais and the southeastern region of Pará, Brazil. Sociodemographic and behavioral data were collected along with anthropometric parameters in order to calculate body mass index (BMI) and the waist-to-height ratio (WHtR).
Objective: To analyze the variables associated with ICU refusal decisions as a life support treatment limitation measure.
Design: Prospective, multicentrico.
Scope: 62 ICU from Spain between February 2018 and March 2019.
From a post hoc analysis of the ADENI-UCI study (multicenter, observational, cohort, prospective study, with a follow-up period of 13 months, in 62 Intensive Medicine Services in Spain. geographical differences in the reason for denial of income in UCI as a LTSV measure are analyzed. A total of 2284 with an average age of 75.

Methods: Post hoc analysis of the ADENI-UCI study. The main variable analysed was the reason for refusal of admission to the ICU as a measure of LLST.

Objective: Patients with HIV who develop pneumothorax have been previously described. Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (PCN) is the leading cause of this complication, but infection by other pulmonary microorganism, inhaled pentamidine therapy and lung invasive manoeuvres have also been associated with pneumothorax in HIV infected patients.
Method: We review the most relevant clinical aspects of pneumothorax in HIV-infected persons, gathered in our hospital along eight years, before HAART therapy was started.
