Our understanding of breast cancer genetics is evolving beyond deleterious mutations in BRCA1 and BRCA2. In the past several years, several low- and moderate-risk breast cancer susceptibility alleles have been identified that have a relative risk for breast cancer of < or = 2. The availability of new techniques such as genome-wide association studies ensures that more low-risk alleles will be identified.

Background: Flexibility in the time of administration of statin therapy is likely to improve patient compliance. This study compared the efficacy and tolerability of morning and evening administration of the extended-release formulation of fluvastatin (fluvastatin XL).

Methods: In this prospective, double-blind, multicenter, multiple dose study, 236 patients with type IIa/b hypercholesterolemia were randomized to receive fluvastatin XL, 80 mg, in the morning or evening for 8 weeks.

An antibody precipitating urease was found in 171 out of 180 human sera. Data obtained on limited material (50 cases) suggest that the anti-urease titre is appreciably higher in the serum of patients suffering from gastric ulcer. This is a pointer towards a possible antigen-antibody mechanism in the genesis of chronic gastric ulceration.
