Ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) is a well-established polymerization method that uses strained cyclic olefins to produce polymers with controlled molecular weight and dispersity suitable for aggregation in solution, leading to polymerization induced self-assembly (PISA). Herein, we report new norbornene-based monomers for the living ROMP that were synthesized on the multigram scale (20 g) starting from -5-norbornene--2,3-dicarboxylic anhydride and hydrazine. Upon further reaction with carboxylic acid chlorides, non-hydrogen-bond-forming derivatives could be obtained.

R-loops consist of an RNA-DNA hybrid and a displaced single-stranded DNA strand that play a central role in several biological processes. However, as the presence of aberrant R-loops forms a significant threat to genome stability, R-loop formation and resolution is strictly controlled by RNAse H and helicases. In a screening for RNA helicases, previously described as RNA-DNA hybrid interactors, that control genome integrity, we identified for the first time DDX37 and DDX50.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a challenging psychiatric condition to treat, with suboptimal recovery and difficulty tolerating exposure-based psychotherapies often noted in outcomes research. The aim of this study was to examine patterns of symptom reduction in veterans with PTSD treated with a Capnometry-Guided Respiratory Intervention (CGRI), a 28-day treatment teaching about the normalization of respiratory rate and exhaled carbon dioxide levels via biofeedback. We hypothesized reductions in total PCL-5 scores and all symptom clusters immediately post-treatment but with relative resistance to changes in hyperarousal symptoms, as reported in the outcomes of research using other evidence-based psychotherapies.

Photobiomodulation (PBM) is a promising non-invasive therapy for tissue repair, but its underlying cellular mechanisms are not fully understood. In this study, the biomechanical and proteomic responses of three cell types - keratinocytes (HACAT), fibroblasts (L929), and osteoblasts (OFCOLII) - exposed to red light (633 nm) are investigated using atomic force microscopy (AFM) and mass spectrometry-based proteomic analysis. Red light absorption resulted in cell-type-specific changes in viscoelastic properties, with fibroblasts exhibiting increased fluidity, reduced stiffness, and enhanced motility.

Spinocerebellar ataxia type 3 (SCA3) is a cureless neurodegenerative disease recognized as the most prevalent form of dominantly inherited ataxia worldwide. The main hallmark of SCA3 is the expansion of a polyglutamine tract located in the C-terminal of Ataxin-3 (or ATXN3) protein, that triggers the mis-localization and toxic aggregation of ATXN3 in neuronal cells. The propensity of wild type and polyglutamine-expanded ATXN3 proteins to aggregate has been extensively studied over the last decades.

ATXN3 is a ubiquitin hydrolase (or deubiquitinase, DUB), product of the gene, ubiquitously expressed in various cell types including peripheral and neuronal tissues and involved in several cellular pathways. Importantly, the expansion of the CAG trinucleotides within the gene leads to an expanded polyglutamine domain in the encoded protein, which has been associated with the onset of the spinocerebellar ataxia type 3, also known as Machado-Joseph disease, the most common dominantly inherited ataxia worldwide. This systematic review addresses the complex nature of Panic Disorder (PD), characterized by recurrent episodes of acute fear, with a focus on updating and consolidating knowledge regarding neurochemical, genetic, and epigenetic factors associated with PD. Utilizing the PRISMA methodology, 33 original peer-reviewed studies were identified, comprising 6 studies related to human neurochemicals, 10 related to human genetic or epigenetic alterations, and 17 animal studies. The review reveals patterns of altered expression in various biological systems, including neurotransmission, the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal (HPA) axis, neuroplasticity, and genetic and epigenetic factors leading to neuroanatomical modifications.

The Hertz-Sneddon elastic indentation model is widely adopted in the biomechanical investigation of living cells and other soft materials using atomic force microscopy despite the explicit viscoelastic nature of these materials. In this work, we demonstrate that an exact analytical viscoelastic force model for power-law materials, can be interpreted as a time-dependent Hertz-Sneddon-like model.
