Objective: This study aims to assess differences in depressive and anxiety symptoms at 6-month follow-up in a smoking cessation trial using e-cigarettes as quitting aids.
Methods: We conducted a secondary analysis of the Swiss multicentre ESTxENDS smoking cessation randomized controlled trial (RCT) assessing differences in depressive (Patient Health Questionnaire-9, PHQ-9, range: 0-27) and anxiety symptoms (General Anxiety Disorder-7, GAD-7, range: 0-21) at 6-month follow-up comparing participants who received e-cigarettes to those who received smoking cessation counseling alone.
Results: Of 1244 participants 913 completed the PHQ-9 and 884 the GAD-7 at 6-month follow-up.
Natural organic matter (NOM) in rivers is an important energy source to sustain aquatic ecosystem health. However, in surface water supply systems where chlorination is often used for disinfection, NOM is also a precursor for the carcinogenic and mutagenic disinfection byproducts such as trihalomethanes and haloacetic acids. Effective management of NOM in rivers to maintain both aquatic ecosystem functions and high-quality water supply requires better understanding of the NOM transport patterns.

This study explores the economic impact of sarcoma surgeries across three Swiss tertiary healthcare institutions, utilizing a consistent surgical approach by a single surgeon to eliminate variability in surgical expertise as a confounding factor.
Methods: By analyzing data from 356 surgeries recorded in a real-world-time data warehouse, this study assesses surgical and hospital costs relative to institutional characteristics and surgical complexity.
Despite the promise of concurrent radiotherapy (RT) and immunotherapy in head and neck cancer (HNC), multiple randomized trials of this combination have had disappointing results. To evaluate potential immunologic mechanisms of RT resistance, we compared pre-treatment HNCs that developed RT resistance to a matched cohort that achieved curative status. Gene set enrichment analysis demonstrated that a pre-treatment pro-immunogenic tumor microenvironment (TME), including type II interferon [interferon gamma (IFNγ)] and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα) signaling, predicted cure while type I interferon [interferon alpha (IFNα)] enrichment was associated with an immunosuppressive TME found in tumors that went on to recur.
