Following the implantation of Björk Shiley 60 degrees convexo-concave (BS-CC) prostheses, outlet strut fracture rates up to 2.5% per year have been reported. According to experimental results and clinical observations, single leg separations are regarded as the primary mechanisms leading to complete outlet strut fracture after a certain interval.

In this model of paroxysmal dystonia, the noncompetitive NMDA receptor antagonists memantine and MK-801 (dizocilpine) delayed the progression of dystonic attacks in a dose-dependent fashion. The novel competitive NMDA receptor antagonist CGP 37849 (DL-[E]-2-amino-4-methyl-5-phosphono-3-pentenoic acid) was more effective than memantine and MK-801, because it retarded not only the progression but also reduced the severity of the dystonic movements.

The paper describes a radiographic unit specially designed for direct magnifying medical applications. The MICROFOX G10 is microprocessor-controlled and performs a variable focal spot size between 20 and 130 microns. Depending upon the object thickness a maximum direct magnification up to 9 x is possible.

MK-801 produced head shakes, sterotypies, 'psychotic' behaviour (e.g.

The most prominent behavioural response examined after 8-OH-DPAT, 0.5 mg/kg i.

In this study the CNS of the mutant hamsters and age-matched nondystonic controls was examined for morphological alterations at the age of 30 days, i.e.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAttacks of sustained dystonic postures of limbs and trunk can be initiated by mild environmental stimuli in an inbred line of Syrian hamsters. The trait is determined by an autosomal simple recessive genetic mutation, originally designated by the gene symbol sz, because the abnormal movements were thought to represent epileptic seizures. The attacks, which can be reproducibly initiated by placing the sz mutant hamsters in a new environment, begin with rapid twitches of the vibrissae, flattened ears, and flattened posture of the trunk while walking, followed by facial contortions, rearing, and sustained posturing of trunk and limbs, often resulting in falling over to the side or backwards.
