Persistent Small Bowel Obstruction due to Small Bowel Adenocarcinoma: A Case Report.

Small bowel obstruction (SBO), of both partial and complete types, is a condition predominantly caused by intra-abdominal adhesions and hernias. However, a known but very uncommon cause of SBO is malignancies, which are more complicated than those caused by adhesions and hernias, and associated with poorer prognoses; of these, small bowel adenocarcinoma is an even rarer etiology of SBO. The majority of SBO cases that are treated have resolution of symptoms and do not have recurrence/persistence of the condition; however, reports suggest that approximately one-fifth of SBO cases that are treated will result in recurrence/persistence of SBO requiring repeat admission.

A Rare Case of Three Distinct Gastrointestinal Neoplasms Occurring Simultaneously in an Elderly Patient.

Duodenal adenocarcinoma (DA), gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST), and pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor (PNET) are a set of rare gastrointestinal (GI) cancers characterized by nonspecific symptoms such as anemia, weight loss, and abdominal pain. We report an interesting case of DA, GIST, and PNET in a 79-year-old African American male who presented to the emergency department with syncope. The patient was tachycardic and found to have severe anemia.

Delayed Titanium Hypersensitivity and Retained Foreign Body Causing Late Abdominal Complications.

Titanium is a known metal used widely in the medical field and can cause allergic reactions with complications. Our case is about a 28-year-old female presenting with a spectrum of abdominal symptoms with a complicated medical history. The abdominal pain is associated with titanium allergy reaction from previously inserted titanium-based surgical clips.

Cosmesis, patient satisfaction, and quality of life after da Vinci Single-Site cholecystectomy and multiport laparoscopic cholecystectomy: short-term results from a prospective, multicenter, randomized, controlled trial.

Background: Single-incision laparoscopic cholecystectomy evolved from the traditional multiport laparoscopic technique. Prior trials have demonstrated improved cosmesis with the single-incision technique. Robotic single-site surgery minimizes the technical difficulties associated with laparoscopic single-incision approach.
