There is a significant prevalence of intimate partner violence (IPV), substance use disorders (SUD), and depression among incarcerated women in a Peruvian prison, highlighting the need for integrated care.
Out of 249 women surveyed, a substantial number reported experiencing violence before incarceration, with 69.3% facing threats and 61.4% suffering physical violence, alongside high rates of depression (67.5%) and substance use (68.1%).
The study suggests a complex relationship between IPV, substance use, and mental health, urging further research to inform policies and interventions for at-risk women in the Andean region.
