Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on masked hypertension in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients, where patients have normal office blood pressure (BP) but abnormal out-of-office BP readings.
  • Out of 632 analyzed patients, 67% had controlled office BP, but 56% of them displayed masked hypertension, suggesting a significant undetected risk for cardiovascular issues.
  • Key factors linked to masked hypertension include male sex, being of sub-Saharan African origin, higher BMI, and albuminuria, while higher potassium levels and the use of specific medications were associated with lower chances of masked hypertension.

Background: Sarcoma is a heterogeneous group of diseases with few treatment options. Immunotherapy has shown little activity in studies including unselected sarcomas, but immune checkpoint blockers have shown activity in specific histotypes. We evaluated the activity of pembrolizumab in rare and ultra-rare sarcomas.

Unlabelled: Missense mutations in the polymerase epsilon (POLE) gene have been reported to generate proofreading defects resulting in an ultramutated genome and to sensitize tumors to checkpoint blockade immunotherapy. However, many POLE-mutated tumors do not respond to such treatment. To better understand the link between POLE mutation variants and response to immunotherapy, we prospectively assessed the efficacy of nivolumab in a multicenter clinical trial in patients bearing advanced mismatch repair-proficient POLE-mutated solid tumors.

Background: The AcSé-crizotinib program provides extensive screening of crizotinib-targeted genomic alteration in several malignancies. We here report the results in patients with esogastric MET-amplified adenocarcinomas.

Objective: The objective of the study was to evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of crizotinib in patients with pretreated esogastric MET-amplified adenocarcinoma who have no alternative treatment options.

Two hybrid fluorinated double-chain surfactants with a diglucosylated polar head were synthesized. The apolar domain consists of a perfluorohexyl main chain and a butyl hydrogenated branch as a side chain. They were found to self-assemble into small micelles at low critical micellar concentrations, demonstrating that the short branch increases the overall hydrophobicity while keeping the length of the apolar domain short.

Background: Neonatal trials remain difficult to conduct for several reasons: in particular the need for study sites to have an existing infrastructure in place, with trained investigators and validated quality procedures to ensure good clinical, laboratory practices and a respect for high ethical standards. The objective of this work was to identify the major criteria considered necessary for selecting neonatal intensive care units that are able to perform drug evaluations competently.

Methodology And Main Findings: This Delphi process was conducted with an international multidisciplinary panel of 25 experts from 13 countries, selected to be part of two committees (a scientific committee and an expert committee), in order to validate criteria required to perform drug evaluation in neonates.

Article Synopsis
  • A new copper-catalyzed method has been developed for creating phenol-derived compounds, specifically 1-bromoenol ethers, ynol ethers, and ketene acetals.
  • This process involves a cross-coupling reaction that is efficient and can be applied to various substrates.
  • The main reactants used are easily accessible 1,1-dibromo-1-alkenes and phenols, making the method practical for synthetic chemistry.
