There is limited research that specifically explores paternal involvement during pregnancy and childbirth. To address this gap, we completed a series of focus groups with fathers to examine social, cultural, and environmental factors that influence behaviors among new fathers while also providing community perspectives on men's experiences seeking care pre- and postdelivery. We used a phenomenological thematic approach to analyze data from 10 focus groups from five of the six Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health-Community Care Initiative pilot sites collected between November 2021 and April 2022.

Vertebrates have evolved flexible and hard dermal armor, but there is often a tradeoff between mobility and protection. Skeletal modifications include fish scales, the shells of tortoises and turtles, and the cranial projections that are found in marine iguanas and lionfish. Sexual dimorphisms of cranial structures are prominent in fishes; we hypothesized that cranial projections of Pterois volitans will change over ontogeny and are sexually dimorphic.

Study Design: The North Carolina Newborn Exome Sequencing for Universal Screening study developed an age-based, semiquantitative metric to assess the clinical actionability of gene-disease pairs and classify them with respect to age of onset or timing of interventions. This categorization was compared with the gold standard Recommended Uniform Screening Panel and other methods to evaluate gene-disease pairs for newborn genomic sequencing.
Objective: Vascular risk factors like hyperlipidemia may adversely affect brain function. We hypothesized that increased serum triglycerides are associated with decreased executive function and memory in nondemented elderly subjects. We also researched possible vascular mediators and white matter microstructure as assessed with diffusion tensor imaging (DTI).

Both conditions can present in women of child-bearing potential, but pregnancy was an exclusion and discontinuation criterion in tofacitinib randomized controlled trials (RCTs) because of the unknown effects of tofacitinib on mother and child. Tofacitinib is a small molecule that has the potential to cross the placenta.

Despite the amenable intermolecular hydrogen-bonding ability of these rigid molecules, good solubility in common organic solvents and solution processability into uniformed thin films were achieved. Our primary endpoints were movement of head, time to extrication and patient comfort by a visual analogue scale.

Although age-related cognitive decline has been associated with cerebrovascular disease, not much is known about the consequences of carotid atherosclerosis on longitudinal cognitive function. This study examines the longitudinal relationship between atherosclerosis and cognition in a sample of non-demented older subjects using baseline measurements of carotid intima media thickness (CIMT) and annual cognitive measures of executive function (EXEC) and verbal memory (MEM).

IEM include inherited biochemical disorders in which specific enzyme defects interfere with the normal metabolism of exogenous (dietary) or endogenous protein, carbohydrate, or fat. For some of these IEM, effective management depends primarily on nutritional interventions.

Increased expression of Prostate Stem Cell Antigen (PSCA) is correlated with development of malignant human prostate cancer, while studies in mouse models suggest that decreased PSCA levels promote prostate cancer metastasis. These studies suggest that PSCA has context-dependent functions, and could be differentially regulated during tumor progression.

Recent evidence suggests that Dmp1 may activate p53 independently of Arf in certain cell types. Here, we report findings supporting this concept with the definition of an Arf-independent function for Dmp1 in tumor suppression.
