Edible plant oils provide a crucial source of lipids for human nutrition. Owing to the complex processing of some high-quality variants, including Styrian pumpkin seed oil, edible plant oils have become susceptible to food fraud by adulteration with cheaper vegetable oils, compromising both authenticity and quality. To address this issue, a workflow was developed utilizing QTOF-MS/MS to search for triacylglycerol markers indicative of adulteration and subsequently adapted them for routine analysis using triple quadrupole MS/MS.

Micro-Computed Tomography (µCT) systems are used for examining the internal structures of various objects, such as material samples, manufactured parts, and natural objects. Resolving fine details or performing accurate geometric measurements in the voxel data critically depends on the precise calibration of the µCT systems geometry. SARS-CoV-2 serosurveillance is important to adapt infection control measures and estimate the degree of underreporting. Blood donor samples can be used as a proxy for the healthy adult population. Background: Pathogen inactivation (PI) technologies for platelet concentrates and plasma are steadily becoming more established, but new PI treatment options for red blood cells (RBCs), the most commonly used blood component, still need to be developed. We present a novel approach to inactivating pathogens in RBC units employing ultraviolet C (UVC) light.

Methods: Whole blood-derived leukoreduced RBCs suspended in PAGGS-C, a third generation additive solution, served as test samples, and RBCs in PAGGS-C or SAG-M as controls.

Individuals with the Bombay phenotype (Oh) in the ABO blood group system do not express the H, A, and B antigens but have no clinical symptoms. Bombay phenotype with clinical symptoms has been described in leukocyte adhesion deficiency type II (LAD II), a fucosylation disorder caused by mutations in SLC35C1. Background And Objectives: The International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) Working Party for Red Cell Immunogenetics and Blood Group Terminology meets in association with the ISBT congress and has met three times since the last report: at the international meetings held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, September 2016 and Toronto, Canada, June 2018; and at a regional congress in Copenhagen, Denmark, June 2017 for an interim session.

Methods: As in previous meetings, matters pertaining to blood group antigen nomenclature and classification were discussed. New blood group antigens were approved and named according to the serologic and molecular evidence presented.

Only two partial deletions longer than 655 nucleotides had been reported for the RHD gene, constrained within the gene and causing DEL phenotypes. Using a combination of quantitative PCR and long-range PCR, we examined three distinct deletions affecting parts of the RHD gene in three blood donors. Their RHD nucleotide sequences and exact boundaries of the breakpoint regions were determined.

Synchrotron-radiation-based X-ray imaging techniques using tender X-rays are facing a growing demand, in particular to probe the K absorption edges of low-Z elements. Here, a mathematical model has been developed for estimating the detective quantum efficiency (DQE) at zero spatial frequency in the tender X-ray energy range for photon-counting detectors by taking into account the influence of electronic noise. The experiments were carried out with a Medipix3RX ASIC bump-bonded to a 300 µm silicon sensor at the Soft X-ray Spectroscopy beamline (D04A-SXS) of the Brazilian Synchrotron Light Laboratory (LNLS, Campinas, Brazil).
