Objective: The objective of this review was to evaluate the effect of intravenous dexamethasone given intraoperatively for postoperative nausea and vomiting prophylaxis on maximal blood glucose level within the initial 24 hours following elective surgery for patients with diabetes.

Introduction: Postoperative nausea and vomiting is a prevalent adverse effect of anesthesia that leads to morbidity, increased health care costs, and unanticipated hospital admissions. Dexamethasone is an effective prophylactic agent that confers secondary analgesic and anti-inflammatory benefits.

Objective: The purpose of this systematic review is to determine if there is a difference in the incidence of post-dural puncture headache in the obese parturient compared to the non-obese parturient after an accidental dural puncture.

Introduction: Placement of an epidural catheter is a common technique to ease the pain of childbirth. One potential complication is a headache that occurs if the dura mater is accidentally punctured with the epidural needle during the procedure.

Objective: The objective of this review is to identify and map literature related to safe injection practices among anesthesia providers in developed nations. The mapped literature will be used to determine if there is sufficient literature available to pose specific questions that can be valuably addressed, through a future systematic review, to reduce the prevalence of unsafe injections.

Introduction: A safe injection is one that does not harm the recipient, does not expose the healthcare worker to avoidable risk, and does not result in waste that is a danger to the community.

The Self-Evaluation Examination (SEE) was first administered in 1991. The purpose of the SEE has not changed since its inception. The purposes of the SEE are to (1) provide information to the students about their progress in the nurse anesthesia program, (2) to prepare students to take the National Certification Examination, and (3) to provide information to program directors on how well their students are performing.

The purpose of this article is to report the results of the 2001 Professional Practice Analysis performed by the Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetists. This analysis was used to validate the content and test specifications for the National Certification Examination. A total of 2,545 surveys were mailed to 2 groups of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists and 1,197 surveys were returned, a response rate of 47%.
