Helicobacter pylori is a causative agent of severe diseases of the gastric tract ranging from chronic gastritis to gastric cancer. Cellular proteins of H. pylori were separated by high resolution two-dimensional gel electrophoresis.

Iterative data analysis is the key for exhaustive analysis of peptide mass fingerprints from proteins separated by two-dimensional electrophoresis.

Peptide mass fingerprinting (PMF) is a powerful tool for identification of proteins separated by two-dimensional electrophoresis (2-DE). Comparative urodynamic patterns of bladder pressure, contractility and urine flow in man and rat during micturition.

A urodynamic characterization of the distinctive patterns of normal micturition in man and rat was undertaken. Data were obtained from experimental studies where bladder pressure was measured suprapubically obviating urethral instrumentation. Ambulatory urodynamic studies were conducted with 17 asymptomatic male volunteers.

Urodynamic patterns of normal male micturition: influence of water consumption on urine production and detrusor function.

Purpose: Urodynamic characterization of normal male micturition can be a useful standard in the analysis of data on patients complaining of voiding dysfunction. The validity of such a standard is based on the need to obtain baseline parameters of pressure flow values, an important consideration when evaluating prostatic obstruction and its treatment. While current numerical pressure flow values provide a useful summary of the voiding sequence, a more complete analysis of the pattern of normal voiding may reveal more functionally useful information concerning micturition.

Sentinel nodal assessment in patients with carcinoma of the lung.

Background: Assessment of sentinel nodes to predict metastases in a regional nodal basin is valuable for staging patients with melanoma and breast carcinoma. This study tested whether injection of isosulfan blue and technetium-99 could identify mediastinal sentinel nodes in patients with lung carcinoma and determine whether sentinel node histology predicts distal nodal metastases.

Methods: Isosulfan blue and technetium-99 were injected into the tumor and pulmonary resection performed.

The moderating influence of job performance dimensions on convergence of supervisory and peer ratings of job performance: unconfounding construct-level convergence and rating difficulty.

Meta-analysis was used to cumulate the correlations between supervisor and peer ratings for different dimensions of job performance. The general pattern in the data suggested that raters from the same organizational level disagree as much as raters from different levels. Methods were used to separate the effects of rating difficulty and lack of construct-level convergence on the correlation between supervisor and peer ratings.

Business-unit-level relationship between employee satisfaction, employee engagement, and business outcomes: a meta-analysis.

Based on 7,939 business units in 36 companies, this study used meta-analysis to examine the relationship at the business-unit level between employee satisfaction-engagement and the business-unit outcomes of customer satisfaction, productivity, profit, employee turnover, and accidents. Generalizable relationships large enough to have substantial practical value were found between unit-level employee satisfaction-engagement and these business-unit outcomes. One implication is that changes in management practices that increase employee satisfaction may increase business-unit outcomes, including profit.

Glucose-insulin-potassium infusion for myocardial protection during off-pump coronary artery surgery.

Background: The purpose of this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled pilot study was to determine the effectiveness of an intravenous glucose-insulin-potassium (GIK) infusion in preventing myocardial damage and maintaining cardiac performance in patients undergoing "off-pump" myocardial revascularization.

Methods: Forty-six adult patients undergoing elective off-pump coronary artery bypass received either normal saline or a GIK infusion immediately after the induction of anesthesia through the first 12 hours of intensive care unit convalescence. Measurements of blood glucose, circulating creatine kinase MB and troponin I concentrations, as well as cardiac index (CI) and mixed venous oxygen saturation (SvO2), were obtained immediately before starting the infusion (baseline) and at 6, 12, and 24 hours post-initial coronary artery occlusion.

MR-guided percutaneous core biopsy of small breast lesions: first experience with a vertically open 0.5T scanner.

Purpose: The growing use of highly sensitive but only moderate specific breast MRI requires the development of both minimal-invasive as well as precise biopsy systems. The aim of the study was to prove the accuracy and feasibility of a biopsy procedure carried out in prone position in a vertically opened MR imager.

Materials And Methods: The biopsies were carried out in 21 women with lesions visible on MRI alone using an open breast coil with an integrated biopsy device.

Proteus syndrome.

Proteus syndrome is a rarely described dysplasia syndrome of the group of congenital hamartomas that arises from mosaic mutation. An extraordinary case history including imaging studies will be reported. This 17-year-old girl suffered from cachexia, lifelong chronic obstipation, different dysplasias, and lipomatous tumor-like lesions.

Generation of minimal protein identifiers of proteins from two-dimensional gels and recombinant proteins.

We describe the technical feasibility and methodology to characterize a protein by a minimal set of structural information generated by matrix assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI)-mass spectrometry, termed a "minimal protein Identifier" (MPI). MPIs can be determined for proteins from two-dimensional gels and recombinant proteins and can be used to compare and identify proteins from these sources.
