Background: A new method in mandible reconstruction has recently been developed using patient-specific mandible reconstruction plates (PSMP) after preoperative computer planning using CAD/CAM procedures. To transfer the virtual planned position of the PSMP into the intraoperative situs resection margins and plate position is determined by using surgical guides made by CAD/CAM procedures as well (PSMP-method).

Methods: Mandibular reconstruction with the PSMP-method was performed on 18 patients.

Computer-assisted planning and surgery for the treatment of orthognathic deformities have been extensively documented over the last decade. Computerized and customized wafers have lacked to improve the accuracy of maxillary positioning, resulting in a drawback of computer-assisted orthognathic surgery. The aim of this study was to determine the accuracy of a new technique of waferless maxillary positioning using customized surgical guides and patient specific osteosynthesis implants in bimaxillary orthognathic surgery.

Purpose: During the repair of zygomatico-orbital complex (ZMC) fractures, the lateral orbital wall and/or the orbital floor is often reduced by merely reducing the zygoma. Intraoperative 3D imaging can help surgeons decide whether the orbit must be reconstructed as well. The purpose of this study was therefore to assess the usefulness of intraoperative 3D C-arm imaging in evaluating the adequacy of fracture reduction.

Objective: Percutaneous vascular interventions lead inevitably to a destruction of the endothelial lining at the site of injury. There are conflicting data on the therapeutic benefit of hematopoietic growth factors aiming at mobilisation of circulating endothelial cells to accelerate the reendothelialisation process. Aim of our study was to evaluate the impact of a maximised 7 day-combination therapy with G-CSF plus EPO on the healing process following balloon injury of the rat carotid artery.
