Implant-supported hybrid prostheses have become popular solutions when treating patients with terminal dentitions or who are completely edentulous. Since the implementation of osseointegrated dental implants to treat edentulism, multiple prosthetic designs and materials have been used for full-arch fixed hybrid prostheses. While these restorations can be highly successful, the most common restorative failures are attributed to lack of prosthetic space or a framework without passive fit, consequently leading to possible chippings, delamination, and/or fractures.

Computerized tomography (CT)-based dental imaging for implant planning and surgical guidance carries both restorative information for implant positioning, as far as trajectory and distribution, and radiographic information, as far as depth and proximity to critical anatomic landmarks such as the mandibular canal, maxillary sinus, and adjacent teeth. This case report describes a systematic approach to the planning and surgical placement of a single implant-supported crown, utilizing CT-based dental imaging for implant planning and surgical guidance. The simple steps result in the accurate transfer of critical radiographic information to the surgical site.

This clinical report describes the use of maxillary and mandibular overlay removable partial dentures to treat a patient with class III skeletal malocclusion and a posterior open-occlusal relationship. Overlay removable partial denture therapy was used as an alternative to other options such as orthodontics and combined orthodontic/oral surgery procedures; it satisfied the esthetic and functional requirements of the patient and provided a stable occlusion. Overlay removable partial dentures are a reversible and relatively inexpensive treatment for patients with congenital or acquired anomalies, but the potential disadvantages of these prostheses include compromised esthetics when the dentures are removed; caries and periodontal disease as a result of poor oral hygiene; and veneer material fracture, debonding, discoloration, and wear.

Objectives: The objective of this study was to quantify the variation in use and type of imaging guides used by community-based specialists and general practitioners during dental implant treatment planning phases. The specific aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that specialists are more likely to use some form of cross-sectional imaging in conjunction with imaging guides during the preoperative assessment of dental implant procedures.

Study Design: Records from 630 patients with implants (1640 implants) referred for cross-sectional tomography were reviewed.
