Trends in treatment and overall survival among patients with proximal esophageal cancer.

Background: The management of proximal esophageal cancer differs from that of tumors located in the mid and lower part of the esophagus due to the close vicinity of vital structures. Non-surgical treatment options like radiotherapy and definitive chemoradiation (CRT) have been implemented. The trends in (non-)surgical treatment and its impact on overall survival (OS) in patients with proximal esophageal cancer are unclear, related to its rare disease status.

Development and validation of a radiomic signature to predict HPV (p16) status from standard CT imaging: a multicenter study.

Objectives: Human papillomavirus (HPV) positive oropharyngeal cancer (oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma, OPSCC) is biologically and clinically different from HPV negative OPSCC. Here, we evaluate the use of a radiomic approach to identify the HPV status of OPSCC.

Methods: Four independent cohorts, totaling 778 OPSCC patients with HPV determined by p16 were collected.

A rare late complication after concomitant chemoradiation of an oropharyngeal tumor: cervical necrotizing fasciitis.

Chemoradiation is increasingly being used to treat locally advanced head and neck carcinomas. Possible rare complications of this treatment modality have begun to appear, as the number of treated patients increase. In this report, we present a case who underwent chemoradiation due to T3N3M0 tonsil cancer and developed necrotizing fasciitis of the neck at seven months following treatment.
