Purpose: Few studies are currently available among elderly patients, justifying the need for better understanding of daily medical practices in terms of use of growth factors to prevent chemotherapy (CT)-induced neutropenia. The primary objective of this study was to describe the use of filgrastim in the elderly.
Methods: Cancer patients aged 65 years and above, undergoing CT and initiating a prophylactic treatment with filgrastim, were enrolled.
The benefits provided by disease-modifying treatments in multiple sclerosis have been demonstrated in clinical trials, but the extent to which they can be extrapolated to everyday care is less clear, as are the long-term benefits of treatment. View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground And Objective: The exact timing of the evolution of lesion volumes of invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) on CT scan images could be helpful in the management of hematological patients but has never been evaluated in a prospective study. We analyzed the CT scan data from the prospective Combistrat trial.
Design And Methods: Volumes of aspergillosis lesions from 30 patients (including 24 acute myeloid leukaemia) with probable (n=26) or proven (n=4) IPA according to the EORTC-MSG modified criteria, were measured prospectively on the thoracic CT scans at the enrolment in the study on day 0 (D0), D7, D14 and end of treatment (EOT).
Objectives: To assess simplified maintenance regimens containing dual antiretroviral drugs in patients with controlled human immunodeficiency virus type 1 infection.
Methods: A non-inferiority, randomized, multicentre, open-label trial was performed in 24 AIDS clinical centres in France randomizing 143 patients [treated for >or=6 months, plasma viral load (pVL) <50 copies/mL, no prior history of treatment failure] to receive a two-drug regimen [tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (tenofovir DF) and efavirenz] or to maintain a three-drug treatment (tenofovir DF, lamivudine and efavirenz). The main outcome measure was the success rate (percentage of patients with pVL <50 copies/mL without treatment modifications) at week 48.

An open-label, multicentre, prospective, pilot study was conducted in adult patients receiving chemotherapy for acute leukaemia (AL) or myeloablative allogeneic stem cell transplantation (SCT). Methods: Patients with proven or probable IA were randomized in a prospective, open pilot study to receive either a combination of liposomal amphotericin B (AmB) at the standard dose (3 mg/kg daily) and caspofungin at the standard dose or monotherapy with a high-dose AmB regimen (10 mg/kg daily).
