The paper is mainly concerned with the training of students by treating exercises as having several ways to be addressed. The topic considered herein focuses on the vibrations of a free edge axisymmetric homogeneous circular thin plate excited by a time-periodic source. This topic is prepared using the three analytic methods available (but these are not fully used analytically in the literature) to show the different aspects of the problem: modal expansion, integral formulation, and exact general solution, against which the other models are tested.

Digital image correlation, deflectometry and digital holography are some of the full-field optical measurement techniques that have matured in recent years. Their use in vibroacoustic applications is gaining attention and there is a need for cataloging their performance in order to provide, to a broad community of users and potential future users, quantitative and qualitative evaluations of these three approaches. This paper presents an experimental comparison of the three optical methods in the context of vibration measurements, along with classical reference measurements provided by an accelerometer and a laser Doppler vibrometer.

The mechanisms leading to the accumulation of the SMC complexes condensins around specific transcription units remain unclear. Observations made in bacteria suggested that RNA polymerases (RNAPs) constitute an obstacle to SMC translocation, particularly when RNAP and SMC travel in opposite directions. Here we show in fission yeast that gene termini harbour intrinsic condensin-accumulating features whatever the orientation of transcription, which we attribute to the frequent backtracking of RNAP at gene ends.

Guitar plucked sounds arise from a rapid input of energy applied to the string coupled to the instrument body at the bridge. For the radiated pressure, this results in quasi-harmonic contributions, reflecting the string modes coupled to the body, as well as some transient and quickly decaying components reflecting the excitation of the body modes of the instrument. In order to evaluate the relevance of this transient body sound, a high resolution analysis-synthesis method is described for the extraction of the body-mode contribution from the radiated pressure measured in the near field of the guitar top plate.

this paper discusses on the influence of decorrelation noise induced by quantization and shot-noise when recording digital holograms at very high frame rate. A criterion based on the coherence factor of the hologram phase difference is proposed. The main parameters of interest are the ratio between the reference and the object waves and the sensor dynamics, depending on the photo-electron capacity of pixels.

This paper describes a digital holographic setup based on in-line holography and a high-speed recording to get a multipoint vibrometer. The use of a high-speed sensor leads to specificities that enable the in-line configuration to be used. This paper proposes a first attempt to visualize and analyze the vibrations induced by a bone-conduction device and propagating at the surface of the skin of a human face. The method is based on a new approach in a so-called quasi-time-averaging regime, resulting in the retrieval of the vibration amplitude and phase from a sequence of digital Fresnel holograms recorded with a high image rate. The design of the algorithm depends on the ratio between the exposure time and the vibration period.

Since the 1960s and 1970s, researchers have proposed simplified models using only a few parameters to describe the vibro-acoustical behavior of string instruments in the low-frequency range. This paper presents a method for deriving and estimating a few important parameters or features describing the mechanical behavior of classical guitars over a broader frequency range. These features are selected under the constraint that the measurements may readily be made in the workshop of an instrument maker.

The "gothic" style of harp was popular across most of Europe from the late medieval period to the Renaissance. These harps have a one-piece, longitudinally oriented hardwood soundboard, as opposed to the transverse-oriented bonded softwood structure on a modern instrument. The issue of the influence of wall vibrations on the behavior of wind instruments is still under debate. The mechanisms of vibroacoustic couplings involved in these vibrations are difficult to investigate, as fluid-structure interactions are weak.
