The lateral wall of the mouse subventricular zone harbors neural stem cells (NSC, B cells) which generate proliferating transient-amplifying progenitors (TAP, C cells) that ultimately give rise to neuroblasts (NB, A cells). Molecular profiling at the single-cell level struggles to distinguish these different cell types. Here, we combined transcriptome analyses of FACS-sorted cells and single-cell RNAseq to demonstrate the existence of an abundant, clonogenic and multipotent population of immature neuroblasts (iNB cells) at the transition between TAP and migrating NB (mNB).

Article Synopsis
  • Radiation therapy for brain tumors can lead to cognitive impairments and injuries, making it essential to find effective biomarkers for assessing its impact on patients.
  • In a study on mice, researchers used MRI techniques to analyze changes in brain tissue after exposure to radiation, revealing significant decreases in specific metrics related to neurogenesis over time.
  • The findings indicate that the S-index provides valuable insights into radiation-induced effects, such as reduced neural stem cells and newborn neurons, highlighting the need to improve radiation therapy methods.

Fanconi anemia (FA) is a human rare genetic disorder characterized by congenital defects, bone marrow (BM) failure and predisposition to leukemia. The progressive aplastic anemia suggests a defect in the ability of hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) to sustain hematopoieis. We have examined the role of the nuclear FA core complex gene Fancg in the functionality of HSC.
