Physical activity and sedentary lifestyle in children with type 1 diabetes: a multicentre Italian study.

Background: Regular Physical Activity (RPA) is one of the cornerstones of Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) therapy, but conflicting results are reported in the literature.

Aim: To compare (RPA) and Sedentary Lifestyle (SL) among children with type 1 diabetes (T1D) and healthy peers.

Subjects And Methods: Seven Italian paediatric diabetes centres enrolled 129 children with T1D and 214 healthy peers who were interviewed by a telephone questionnaire on physical activity level, sedentary lifestyle and clinical data.

No increase in prevalence of Barrett's oesophagus in a surgical series of obese patients referred for laparoscopic gastric banding.

Introduction: Obesity is a risk factor for gastroesophageal reflux and oesophageal adenocarcinoma. However, only a few studies have examined obesity and lifestyle risk factors in relation to Barrett's oesophagus. In this prospective study we assessed the presence of oesophagitis and Barrett's oesophagus in obese patients selected for laparoscopic gastric banding.

[The BIB intragastric balloon].

Introduction: Since 1998, we adopted in our clinical practice for obesity treatment the new intragastric balloon (BioEnterics Intragastric Balloon, BIB), it has the characteristics of an "ideal gastric balloon" (Workshop Tarpon Springs, 1987).

Materials And Methods: Since March 1998 we have placed by endoscopic approach 518 BIB in 480 patients affected by first, second and severe morbid obesity; 124 male and 356 female, mean age 41.6 years (18-72), mean weight Kg 116.
