Treatment of attention-deficit/ hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in patients with a substance use disorder (SUD) and comorbid ADHD (SUD +ADHD) may have positive effects on the outcome of both conditions, but controversy exists regarding the preferred ADHD treatment in these patients. Little is known about the treatments that are provided for these patients in routine addiction care practice and the factors that are associated with treatment provision. Automated Deuterium Relaxation-Ordered SpectroscopY in solution (ADROSYS), an automated two-dimensional deuterium NMR methodology, discriminates between DO populations (as well as deuterium-labeled alcohol groups) whose properties differ as a result of being confined inside nanoscale volumes. In this contribution, a proof-of-principle demonstration on reverse micelles (RMs) yields the insight that as the length scale of the confinement decreases from several nanometers down to less than a nanometer, the position of the signal peak migrates through the two-dimensional (2D) spectrum, tracing out a distinctive path in the 2D space (of relaxation time vs chemical shift). The signals typically follow a relatively gentle linear path for water confined on the scale of several nanometers, before curving once the surfactants confine the water molecules to length scales smaller than 1-2 nm.

Introduction: Addiction to benzodiazepines is a serious problem, and it is important to better understand how individuals can be motivated to quit. Few studies have investigated patients' perceptions and experiences of addiction to benzodiazepines and there is a need to better understand the influence of motivational factors on treatment seeking.

Regional endothermy is the ability of an animal to elevate the temperature of specific regions of the body above that of the surrounding environment and has evolved independently among several fish lineages. Sarcolipin (SLN) is a small transmembrane protein that uncouples the sarcoplasmic reticulum calcium ATPase pump (SERCA1b) resulting in futile Ca cycling and is thought to play a role in non-shivering thermogenesis (NST) in cold-challenged mammals and possibly some fishes. This study investigated the relative expression of sln and serca1 transcripts in three regionally-endothermic fishes (the skipjack, Katsuwonus pelamis, and yellowfin tuna, Thunnus albacares, both of which elevate the temperatures of their slow-twitch red skeletal muscle (RM) and extraocular muscles (EM), as well as the cranial endothermic swordfish, Xiphias gladius), and closely related ectothermic scombrids (the Eastern Pacific bonito, Sarda chiliensis, and Pacific chub mackerel, Scomber japonicus).

Background: People in homelessness have an increased risk of substance use disorders (SUDs) and poor health outcomes. This cohort study aimed to investigate the association between homelessness and mortality in people with SUDs, adjusting for age, sex, narcotic use, intravenous drug use and inpatient care for SUDs.

Methods: Data from the Swedish National Addiction Care Quality Register in the Stockholm region were used to analyse mortality risk in people with SUDs (n=8397), including 637 in homelessness, 1135 in precarious housing and 6625 in stable housing, at baseline.

Hydration water dynamics, structure, and thermodynamics are crucially important to understand and predict water-mediated properties at molecular interfaces. Yet experimentally and directly quantifying water behavior locally near interfaces at the sub-nanometer scale is challenging, especially at interfaces submerged in biological solutions. Overhauser dynamic nuclear polarization (ODNP) experiments measure equilibrium hydration water dynamics within 8-15 angstroms of a nitroxide spin probe on instantaneous timescales (10 picoseconds to nanoseconds), making ODNP a powerful tool for probing local water dynamics in the vicinity of the spin probe.

The spanwise undulated cylinder geometry inspired by seal whiskers has been shown to alter shedding frequency and reduce fluid forces significantly compared to smooth cylindrical geometry. Prior research has parameterized the whisker-inspired geometry and demonstrated the relevance of geometric variations on force reduction properties. Diffusion of atoms or ions in solid crystalline lattice is crucial in many areas of solid-state technology. However, controlling ion diffusion and migration is challenging in nanoscale lattices. In this work, we intentionally insert a CdZnS alloyed interface layer, with small cationic size mismatch with Mn(ii) dopant ions, as an "atomic trap" to facilitate directional (outward and inward) dopant migration inside core/multi-shell quantum dots (QDs) to reduce the strain from the larger cationic mismatch between dopants and host sites.

All-inorganic metal halide perovskites (ABX, X = Cl, Br, or I) show great potential for the fabrication of optoelectronic devices, but the toxicity and instability of lead-based perovskites limit their applications. Shell passivation with a more stable lead-free perovskite is a promising strategy to isolate unstable components from the environment as well as a feasible way to tune the optical properties. This article presents a standardized alternative to the traditional phase cycling approach employed by the overwhelming majority of contemporary Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) research. On well-tested, stable NMR systems running well-tested pulse sequences in highly optimized, homogeneous magnetic fields, the hardware and/or software responsible for traditional phase cycling quickly isolate a meaningful subset of data by averaging and discarding between 3/4 and 127/128 of the digitized data.
