Malignant melanoma of the nasal septum, a rare tumor, occurring in a 54-year-old patient after hereditary retinoblastoma treatment.

The authors report a case of a malignant melanoma of the nasal cavity that is a rare tumor and very aggressive, constituting 1% of all melanomas. It appeared in a patient 54 years after he was treated for a hereditary retinoblastoma. Its symptoms are nonspecific, and often marked by epistaxis.

Spontaneous closure of macular holes secondary to posterior uveitis: case series and a literature review.

The occurrence of a macular hole due to posterior uveitis is infrequently reported. We report the evolution of three cases of macular holes secondary to posterior segment inflammation. A complete inflammatory and infectious assessment found one case of toxocariasis, one of sarcoidosis, and one of syphilis.

Toxoplasmic pachymeningitis with visual field impairment in a single-eyed patient and a literature review.

Congenital nystagmus and negative electroretinography.

Congenital nystagmus is a pathologic oculomotor state appearing at about three to four months of age. The precise diagnosis requires detailed clinical examination and electrophysiological findings. This case report presents two male patients with congenital nystagmus examined longitudinally from the age of six months until 17-18 years of age.

Phase II trial of the association of a methionine-free diet with cystemustine therapy in melanoma and glioma.

Background: In a previous phase I clinical trial of dietary methionine (MET) restriction with cystemustine treatment for melanoma or glioma, we determined the optimal MET-free diet duration to be 1 day. On this basis, a phase II clinical trial was initiated to evaluate safety and efficacy of this combination.

Patients And Methods: Twenty-two patients (20 with metastatic melanoma and 2 with recurrent gloma) received a median of 4 cycles of the association of a 1-day MET-free diet with cystemustine (60 mg/m(2)) every two weeks.

Macular pigment density assessed by directional fundus reflectance.

Light radiated from foveal photoreceptors was analyzed in the eye's pupil at 470 nm and 532 nm. The reflectance of the inner limiting membrane was then measured at 6 deg from the fovea for the same wavelengths, allowing us to determine the macular pigment (MP) density D(dir) using the directional reflectance technique. In addition we measured the MP density D(nd) using the nondirectional reflectance technique (26 subjects).

123I-N-(2-diethylaminoethyl)-2-iodobenzamide: a potential imaging agent for cutaneous melanoma staging.

Among iodobenzamides reported to possess an affinity for melanoma, a new compound, N-(2-diethylaminoethyl)-2-iodobenzamide (BZA(2)), was selected for a clinical trial in view of its pharmacokinetic experimental profile in melanoma-bearing mice.
