Background: Robotic pet therapy could aid in the nonpharmacologic treatment of pain, agitation, delirium, immobility, and sleep disruption (PADIS) in the intensive care unit (ICU), similar to traditional pet therapy.
Observations: The North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System implemented a robotic pet therapy program for patients requiring ICU care. Details of this program are described in this article, including evaluating its impact on PADIS management.
Study Design: Multicenter prospective cohort study.
Objectives: Anxiety in combination with osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (OVCFs) of the spine remains understudied. The purpose of this study was to analyze whether anxiety has an impact on the short-term functional outcome of patients with an OVCF.
The loosening of an artificial joint is a frequent and critical complication in orthopedics and trauma surgery. Due to a lack of accuracy, conventional diagnostic methods such as projection radiography cannot reliably diagnose loosening in its early stages or detect whether it is associated with the formation of a biofilm at the bone-implant interface. In this work, we present a non-invasive ultrasound-based interferometric measurement procedure for quantifying the thickness of the layer between bone and prosthesis as a correlate to loosening.

Objective: The study aims to validate the recently developed OF score for treatment decisions in patients with osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (OVCF).
Methods: This is a prospective multicenter cohort study (EOFTT) in 17 spine centers.
Even if much is known regarding the effects of internet-delivered cognitive behaviour therapy (ICBT) for depression there are several topics that have not been studied. In this factorial design trial with 197 participants we investigated if clients in ICBT could select treatment modules themselves based on a selection of 15 tailored treatment modules developed for use in ICBT for depression. We contrasted this against clinician-tailored module selection.

Purpose: Patients suffering from osteoporotic thoracolumbar fractures were included.
Objective: Diabetic ketoacidosis and hyperosmolar hyperglycemic state are life-threatening hyperglycemic crises often requiring intensive care unit (ICU) management. Treatment includes intravenous (IV) insulin with a transition to subcutaneous (SC) insulin upon resolution. Hypoglycemia is a common complication associated with treatment of hyperglycemic crises, but risk factors have not been well established.

Whether this positive impact applies to increased use of cardiovascular risk-reducing medications is less well established. To determine the association of CPS co-management on the prescription of diabetes medications with proven cardiovascular benefits for patients with DM and established cardiovascular disease in the primary care setting.

Studies have shown the use of oral anticoagulants, specifically dabigatran, can significantly decrease mortality from COVID-19. Dabigatran is an oral direct thrombin inhibitor commonly used for nonvalvular atrial fibrillation and for the treatment or prevention of venous thromboembolism.

PN overfeeding is associated with increased adverse effects; however, whether risk for CLABSI is influenced by PN dosing is uncertain. The purpose of the study was to assess differences in CLABSI risk associated with recommended total energy dosing in hospitalized adult patients receiving PN.

Therefore persistent stress on the fracture is avoided. To ensure sufficient soft tissue coverage the pedicle screws are inserted via small incisions in the lumbar spine area and the iliac screws via slightly oblique incisions on both sides laterally of the posterior iliac spine.

Introduction Septic shock is defined as a dysregulated host response to infection characterized by hemodynamic instability. Concern for the increased risk of acute kidney injury (AKI) with piperacillin-tazobactam in combination with vancomycin may prompt more use of alternative broad-spectrum antipseudomonal beta-lactam antibiotics, such as cefepime. This study assessed whether cefepime was associated with improved outcomes compared to piperacillin-tazobactam in patients with septic shock.

Clinical trials have shown an increased incidence of acute kidney injury (AKI) using normal saline (NS) for fluid resuscitation. This study evaluated differences in AKI and other patient outcomes associated with vancomycin diluted in NS compared with dextrose 5% in water (D5W).

Methods: Prospective multi-center study including 16 German-speaking trauma centers over a period of 7 months. All inpatients with OTF were included.
Background: Drug product shortages, including injectable opioids, are common and have the potential to adversely affect patient care.
Objective: To evaluate the impact of an injectable opioid shortage for hospitalized adult patients in the acute postoperative setting.
Methods: A single-center, retrospective cohort study of noncritically ill hospitalized, postoperative patients requiring opioids for acute pain management was conducted.
Adherence to guideline-based venous thromboembolism (VTE) prophylaxis recommendations is often inadequate. Effective improvement strategies are needed. The purpose of this quality improvement initiative was to increase use of the facility's preferred pharmacologic VTE prophylaxis, reduce unnecessary VTE prophylaxis use, and reduce use of pharmacologic VTE prophylaxis in high bleeding risk patients, in accordance with guideline-based recommendations.
