Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Diagnosis and Management of Gynecological Cancer: A Single-Center Analysis.

Background and Objectives: The COVID-19 pandemic impacted health systems worldwide, particularly cancer care. Because the actual implications of these changes on gynecological oncology healthcare are still unclear, we aim to evaluate the impact of this pandemic on the diagnosis and management of gynecological cancer. Materials and Methods: This is a single-center retrospective observational study, including patients diagnosed with gynecological malignancies between January 2019 and December 2021.

Struma ovarii in bilateral ovarian teratoma-case report and literature review.

Struma ovarii is an uncommon ovarian tumour, defined by the finding of thyroid tissue in the ovary, and more frequently found in teratomas. Symptoms of struma ovarii are nonspecific. The definite diagnosis is made by histological examination.

Laparoscopic Approach in Surgical Staging of Endometrial Cancer.

Objective:  To compare laparoscopy with laparotomy for surgical staging of endometrial cancer.

Methods:  A cohort of women with preoperative diagnosis of endometrial cancer who underwent surgical staging was retrospectively evaluated. The main study end points were: morbidity and mortality, hospital length of stay, perioperative adverse events and recurrence rate.

Frozen Section in the Management of Ovarian and Uterine Tumors: The Past 5 Years in a Tertiary Centre.

Objective:  Intraoperative frozen section (IFS) is a valuable resource, and its use in gynecological pathology has not been sufficiently emphasized. The main goal of the present study is to evaluate the reliability and agreement rates between IFS and the final paraffin section (PS) and determine how reliable IFS is.

Methods:  A retrospective study of all IFSs performed on uterine tumors and suspicious adnexal masses between January 2012 and December 2016 (excluding metastases) at the department of obstetrics and gynecology of the Centro Hospitalar Tondela Viseu.

Discriminative value of CA-125, HE4, Risk of Malignancy Index II (RMI-II) and Risk of Malignancy Algorithm (ROMA) in the differential diagnosis of pelvic masses: conclusions from a referral Centre in Portugal.

The major purpose of this article was to compare the discriminative value of different algorithms and serum biomarkers in the differential diagnosis of adnexal masses. We performed a retrospective study with 247 women with adnexal neoplasia, submitted to surgical treatment and with a histological diagnosis. The evaluation of the area under the curve (AUC) for isolated CA-125 and HE4, and for ROMA and RMI-II, showed a better specificity of HE4 and RMI-II in premenopausal women.
