Evaluation of 25 years of phototherapy for treating psoriasis at a teaching hospital in southern Spain.

Background: For years, phototherapy has been used in a wide range of skin diseases, which is unsurprising as skin is the anatomical feature most directly exposed to light, especially in psoriasis. Although the role of light therapy has been replaced by different therapeutic modalities in recent years, this treatment is now an established option for many skin diseases.

Objectives: The aim was to characterize the patient population that had received the aforementioned treatment in the Virgen Macarena Health Area in Seville (Spain) between June 1985 and October 2011.

Dermatitis Artefacta in Childhood: A Retrospective Analysis of 44 Patients, 1976-2006.

Background: Dermatitis artefacta (DA) consists of self-inflicted skin lesions that the patient denies having produced.

Objectives: To conduct a single-center retrospective clinical review of children and adolescents diagnosed with DA.

Methods: From 1976 to 2006, data were collected on children diagnosed with DA who were seen in the Department of Dermatology in our hospital.

O to Z flaps in facial reconstructions.

Local flaps are the standard procedure to reconstruct facial defects. As it occurs in any surgical procedure, the incision should be planned so that scars are located in the minimum skin tension lines. We report two cases of O to Z flaps in the supra and infraciliary regions.

Superficial Acral Fibromyxoma involving the nail's apparatus. Case report and literature review.

Superficial Acral Fibromyxoma is a rare tumor of soft tissues. It is a relatively new entity described in 2001 by Fetsch et al. It probably represents a fibrohistiocytic tumor with less than 170 described cases.

Perifollicular erythema as a trichoscopy sign of progression in frontal fibrosing alopecia.

Introduction: Frontal fibrosing alopecia (FFA) in an entity characterized by the recession of the frontotemporal hairline (FTHL) with alopecic scarring change. In recent years there are numerous articles discussing the usefulness of dermoscopy for the clinical diagnosis of different types of scarring alopecia.

Materials And Methods: We value 79 patients diagnosed with FFA, evaluating some trichoscopical findings described as typical for FFA: Absence of follicular opening, follicular hyperkeratosis, follicular plugs and erythema.

Results of a combination of bleomycin and triamcinolone acetonide in the treatment of keloids and hypertrophic scars.

While treatment of keloids and hypertrophic scars normally shows modest results, we found that treatment with bleomycin was more promising. The present study was divided into two parts. In the first part the aim was to show the results using a combination of bleomycin and triamcinolone acetonide per cm2 (BTA).

Undesirable effects after treatment with dermal fillers.

Background: Soft tissue augmentation is one of the most frequent techniques in cosmetic dermatology. Nowadays, there are a high number of available materials. Nonanimal hyaluronic acid (HA) is one of most useful fillers for lip augmentation and for treating nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and the dynamic wrinkles of the upper face.

Efficacy and safety of clinical use of etanercept for the treatment of moderate-to-severe psoriasis in Spain: results of a multicentric prospective study at 12 months follow-up.

Background: The efficacy of etanercept in the treatment of psoriasis has been demonstrated in several clinical trials, but information regarding results derived from prospective observational studies in clinical practice is scarce.

Objectives: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of etanercept administration according to routine clinical use in moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis.

Materials And Methods: Postauthorization, prospective study, carried out at 59 dermatology units in Spain.

Tuberculosis: an unusual cause of genital ulcer.

Tuberculosis can cause genital ulcers, although this clinical manifestation was more frequent at the beginning of the 20th century as it was related to the rite of circumcision. We report the case of a patient with this disease, presumably acquired through sexual intercourse.

Free flaps in surgical dermatology. Comparison between fasciocutaneous and myocutaneous free flaps in facial reconstructions.

Background: Dermatologic surgeons routinely harvest pedicled flaps at distance with an axial or random pattern to repair facial defects. These types of skin flaps are time-consuming and have high economic, social and personal costs. These drawbacks could be avoided with the introduction of a single-step transfer of free flaps to the recipient site, with microvascular anastomosis.

Localized argyria secondary to acupuncture mimicking blue nevus.

The typical clinical manifestation of localized cutaneous argyria is a blue-grayish asymptomatic macule, which may be caused by occupational exposure, topical treatment, dental amalgams and alternative medicine therapies. The lesions often are clinically indistinguishable from blue nevi and metastatic melanoma. The authors present a case of localized cutaneous argyria secondary to an acupuncture needle, emphasizing the importance of keeping this entity in mind in the differential diagnosis of blue-grayish pigmented lesion in a body area that could have been treated with acupuncture.
