Background: Late preterm infants show high rates of adverse perinatal outcomes. The aim of this study is to assess the morbidity and mortality of newborns (NBs) with late preterm birth in a reference maternity hospital in northeastern Brazil.
Methods: Retrospective cohort study from March 1 to July 15, 2017.
Objective: to test the effects of behavioral and educational intervention by telephone on adherence of women with inappropriate periodicity to colpocytological examination.
Method: quasi-experimental study with a sample of 524 women, selected with the following inclusion criteria: be aged between 25 and 64 years, have initiated sexual activity, have inappropriate periodicity of examination and have mobile or landline phone. The women were divided into two groups for application of behavioral and educational intervention by telephone.
Purpose Of Review: The aim of this review is to report the most recent observations concerning intrauterine Zika virus (ZIKV) infection and associated neuroimaging.
Recent Findings: ZIKV outbreak in Brazil in 2015 was associated with an impressive registration of cases of congenital microcephaly in women with symptoms suggestive of ZIKV infection. Clinical and laboratory testing for ZIKV and hypothetic etiopathogenetic mechanisms are described.
Objective: To evaluate factors associated with maternal death among women experiencing life-threatening conditions during pregnancy, childbirth, or within 42 days of termination of pregnancy.
Methods: A secondary analysis of data prospectively collected in a Brazilian multicenter cross-sectional study between July 2009 and June 2010 was conducted. Women were identified who delivered at a hospital in Ceará and who had potentially life-threatening conditions.

To determine reference values for fetal heart biometric parameters using the spatiotemporal image correlation (STIC) M mode and their applicability in congenital heart diseases (CHDs). A cross-sectional prospective study was conducted with 300 singleton pregnancies between 20 and 33 + 6 weeks of gestation. Right ventricular wall thickness (RVWT), interventricular septum thickness (IVST), and left ventricular wall thickness (LVWT) were measured off-line using the STIC-M mode with the cursor perpendicular to the interventricular septum.

Methods: Retrospective case series of microcephaly with definite (laboratory evidence) or highly probable (specific neuroimaging findings and negative laboratory results) maternal Zika virus infection. Microcephaly was graded as mild if the head circumference was between 2 and 3 standard deviation (SD) below the mean, and severe if 3 or more SD below the mean.
Purpose Previous studies have shown that low birth weight (LBW) is associated with cardiovascular risk in late adulthood. Recent studies in adolescents suggest that modifiable factors may have greater influence on increased cardiovascular risk. This study aims to investigate the association between LBW and changes in anthropometric and biochemical risk factors during adolescence in a population with low average socioeconomic status.

Congenital goiter is considered a rare occurrence, and may be related to hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, or euthyroidism. In this report, we describe a case of fetal goiter identified in the 34th gestational week in a 41-year-old secundigravida with normal thyroid functions. A conservative approach was followed; the fetal goiter was monitored via ultrasound, which suggested this was a case of hyperthyroidism.

Objective: To assess the prediction of delivery within 7 days in pregnant women who showed symptoms of spontaneous preterm birth (PB) by means of fetal adrenal gland biometry and to compare these predictions with the cervical length (CL) measurement.
Methods: We performed a prospective cross-sectional study with 53 pregnant women between 24 and 36 weeks of gestation. An ultrasound exam was performed for each participant to obtain the CL measurement (transvaginal route) and fetal adrenal gland biometry on day 1 of their hospital admission because of symptoms of spontaneous PB.
Objective: To determine the effects of preterm birth and gender on subsequent cardiovascular risk factors among urban adolescents in a capital in the Brazilian northeast and to compare them with a group of adolescents term at birth.
Methods: In a retrospective double cohort, data of birth weight were extracted from hospital registers of children born in a same day of birth, between 1992 and 2002. We classified the preterm as a unique group born before 37 weeks of gestation.

Intralobar pulmonary sequestration is a rare bronchopulmonary malformation consisting of a non-functioning lung mass that receives its arterial blood supply from systemic circulation and that does not adequately communicate with the tracheobronchial tree through a normal bronchus. These sequestrations account for 1.1-1.

Objectives: The objectives of this study is to compare ductus venosus (DV) and cerebral transverse sinus (CTS) Doppler velocimetry for predicting acidemia at birth in pregnancies complicated by placental insufficiency.
Methods: A prospective cross-sectional study involving 69 cases. Doppler assessment of the DV and CTS was carried out in the last 24 hours prior to delivery.
Purpose: To evaluate the effectiveness of misoprostol administered vaginally for uterine evacuation in interrupted early pregnancies and the time between the administration and emptying correlated with gestational age.
Methods: Clinical trial with 41 patients with pregnancies interrupted between the 7th and the 12th gestational weeks. The mean age was 27.
Purpose: To evaluate the antenatal and postnatal risk factors of neonatal death in pregnancies with absent (DZ) or reverse (DR) end-diastolic flow in the umbilical artery.
Methods: A cross-sectional retrospective study based on data from 48 medical records of singleton pregnancies with DZ or DR, and gestational age of 24 to 34 weeks, at a maternity in the Brazilian Northeast. Mean age was 27.
Purpose: to evaluate factors associated with women's dyslipidemia during menopause.
Methods: case-control study of prevalent cases and controls selected from a dedicated outpatient clinic. From recent biochemical parameters found in patients' files, women have been grouped in 'case' and 'control'.
Objectives: To evaluate the prediction of acidemia at birth using ductus venosus Doppler velocimetry and to determine the best parameter and cut-off values for this prediction in pregnancies complicated with placental insufficiency.
Methods: Prospective cross-sectional study. Forty-seven patients with placental insufficiency managed in two Brazilian hospitals were submitted to ductus venosus Doppler velocimetry in the last 24 h before delivery.
Objectives: To investigate the possibility of predicting acidemia at birth in pregnancies with placental insufficiency by Doppler velocimetry of the ductus venosus and to establish the best parameter and cut-off points in this prediction.
Methods: This was a prospective cross-sectional study, involving 47 single pregnancies with placental insufficiency after 26 weeks of gestation, carried out at the "Hospital São Paulo (UNIFESP) and Maternidade-Escola Assis Chateaubriand (UFC)". Placental insufficiency was defined as the umbilical artery pulsatility index above the 95th percentile for gestational age.
