Objectives: Infective endocarditis (IE) has high mortality and morbidity and requires long hospital stays to deliver the antibiotic treatment recommended in clinical practice guidelines. We aimed to analyse the health outcomes of the use of dalbavancin (DBV) in the consolidation treatment of IEs caused by Gram-positive cocci and to perform a pharmacoeconomic study.

Materials And Methods: This observational, retrospective, Spanish multicentre study in patients with IE who received DBV as part of antibiotic treatment in consolidation phase were followed for at least 12 months.

Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzed outcomes of solid organ transplant recipients (SOTRs) hospitalized with COVID-19 in Spain, focusing on factors linked to severe complications and death.
  • It involved 210 patients and found that males were predominant, with common symptoms like pneumonia, fever, and cough; various antiviral treatments were employed.
  • Key predictors for worse outcomes included older age, high respiratory rates, low lymphocyte counts, and high lactate dehydrogenase levels, emphasizing the need for preventive measures right after transplantation.

Purpose: To determine whether a 6-day course of methylprednisolone (MP) improves outcome in patients with severe SARS-CoV‑2 (Corona Virus Disease 2019 [COVID-19]).

Methods: The study was a multicentric open-label trial of COVID-19 patients who were aged ≥ 18 years, receiving oxygen without mechanical ventilation, and with evidence of systemic inflammatory response who were assigned to standard of care (SOC) or SOC plus intravenous MP (40 mg bid for 3 days followed by 20 mg bid for 3 days). The primary outcome was a composite of death, admission to the intensive care unit, or requirement for noninvasive ventilation.
