Liver test abnormalities have been described during severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV)-2 infection causing coronavirus disease 2019. Most of them consist of elevation of the aminotransferases that resolve once the infection subsides. There are several reports of autoimmune hepatitis developing after vaccination against COVID-19 and one case of autoimmune hepatitis following COVID-19 infection.

We sought to evaluate the impact of a transplant surgeon-APP (TSAPP) practice model on patient access and outcomes in the care of critically ill patients with end-stage liver disease (ESLD) in an academic transplant center.
Methods: A retrospective analysis evaluated the effect of practice model evolution over an 11-year period on hospital access of patients with ESLD to an academic liver transplantation center and survival outcomes.

Methods: We studied 79 patients who received a LT for hepatitis B and were placed on all-oral antiviral therapy after withdrawing from hepatitis B immune globulin therapy at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Recurrent infection of hepatitis C virus (HCV) in liver transplant (LT) recipients is universal and associated with significant morbidity and mortality. We retrospectively evaluated the safety and efficacy of ledipasvir/sofosbuvir with and without ribavirin in LT recipients with recurrent genotype 1 hepatitis C. Eighty-five LT recipients were treated for recurrent HCV with ledipasvir/sofosbuvirwith and without ribavirin for 12 or 24 weeks.

Unintentional acetaminophen overdose remains the leading cause of acute liver failure in the United States. Patients with underlying liver disease are at higher risk of poor outcomes from acetaminophen overdose. Limited knowledge of acetaminophen may be a preventable contributor to elevated rates of overdose and thus acute liver failure.

Methods: We retrospectively evaluated the safety and efficacy of sofosbuvir-based LT recipients on HD followed at the University of California Los Angeles.
Objective: The objective of our study was to determine the safety and efficacy of intraductal perfusion of chilled 5% dextrose in water (D5W) via an endoscopic nasobiliary tube (NBT) for the prevention of thermal bile duct injury in patients undergoing percutaneous radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of central liver tumors.
Materials And Methods: We performed a retrospective study comparing outcomes of 32 consecutive patients who underwent percutaneous RFA of central liver tumors without intraductal perfusion of chilled D5W (control cohort) and 14 consecutive patients who underwent temporary intraductal perfusion of chilled D5W at 2 mL/s via endoscopic NBT placement before RFA (endoscopic NBT cohort). The primary and secondary outcomes were the rate of biliary complications and local tumor progression, respectively.
Objectives: To compare the survival difference between 2 surgical modalities in the treatment of locally advanced intrahepatic and hilar cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) and to identify factors that predict mortality.
Design: Retrospective study.
Setting: University transplant center.
Background: Current criteria for orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) for cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) remain restricted to early stage and small hilar tumors, excluding patients with locally advanced intrahepatic and hilar CCA for potential cure. The present study was undertaken to define a prognostic scoring system for risk stratification of patients with intrahepatic and hilar CCA who might benefit from OLT and to allow expansion of current OLT criteria.
Study Design: We conducted a retrospective review of 40 patients who underwent OLT for locally advanced intrahepatic and hilar CCA at our center between February 1985 and June 2010.
Background And Aim: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is increasingly common worldwide. We explored clinical, laboratory, and histological features of NAFLD as well as risk factors for histologically advanced disease among under-represented ethno-racial groups.

Patients with chronic hepatitis B virus infection are at increased risk for the development of cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Viral suppression with antiviral therapy has been shown to decrease the risk of these complications. Criteria for initiation of antiviral therapy have evolved over time to include serum alanine aminotransferase elevation, serum hepatitis B virus DNA elevations, and histologic assessment.

Methods: We compared baseline hepatitis B viral markers in 317 patients who were enrolled in a prospective study and identified the frequency of these tests in immune-tolerant (IT) patients, in inactive carriers, and in patients with either hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg)-positive or HBeAg-negative chronic hepatitis or cirrhosis.
