The study focuses on the prevalence and factors linked to virological treatment failure among HIV-positive children and adolescents in Dodoma, Tanzania, amidst efforts to achieve 90% sustained virological suppression by WHO and USAIDS.
Out of 300 participants, 34% experienced treatment failure, with key factors identified including poor adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART), specific medication regimens, lack of cotrimoxazole prophylaxis, and nondisclosure of HIV status.
The findings highlight the need to improve ART adherence and support disclosure of HIV status to caregivers in order to enhance treatment outcomes and attain better virological control among affected youth.
