To present a new set of lithium-ion cross-sections for (i) ionization and excitation processes down to 700 eV, and (ii) charge-exchange processes down to 1 keV u. To evaluate the impact of the use of these cross-sections on micro a nano dosimetric quantities in the context of boron neutron capture (BNC) applications/techniques.The Classical Trajectory Monte Carlo method was used to calculate Li ion charge-exchange cross sections in the energy range of 1 keV uto 10 MeV u.

Pediatric providers have a unique and important role and strategies to improve collaboration and communication between public health and pediatric providers are essential during public health emergencies. A robust network of communication channels, effective public health messaging, and pediatric-focused disease related, and program outcome data are key to supporting a coordinated response to future pandemics.

While this is partially due to situational factors, people's beliefs about the possibility of intergenerational friendship may also affect how they approach potential intergenerational interactions. In a sample of 209 students from a Canadian university, we validate the Beliefs in Intergenerational Friendship (BIGF) scale.

The management differs significantly between these two entities, and non-invasive methods that help differentiate between them are eagerly needed to avoid potentially morbid biopsies and surgical procedures. We explore herein the performance and interpretability of an MRI-radiomics variational quantum neural network (QNN) using a quantum-annealing mutual-information (MI) feature selection approach.

Calculating the electron-capture cross section (ECCS) for protons is an important question in hadrontherapy and plasma physics, among other areas. In previous studies, it was shown that the approach based on the Local Density Approximation (LDA) fails in the 1-50 keV region, requiring the use of the Optimized Effective Potential (OEP) method.

The aim of the present study is to extend a Geant4-DNA radiobiological application by incorporating a feature allowing for the prediction of DNA rejoining kinetics and corresponding cell surviving fraction along time after irradiation, for a Chinese hamster V79 cell line, which is one of the most popular and widely investigated cell lines in radiobiology.
Methods: We implemented the Two-Lesion Kinetics (TLK) model, originally proposed by Stewart, which allows for simulations to calculate residual DNA damage and surviving fraction along time via the number of initial DNA damage and its complexity as inputs.
The peptidoglycan of mycobacteria has two types of direct cross-links, classical 4-3 cross-links that occur between diaminopimelate (DAP) and alanine residues, and nonclassical 3-3 cross-links that occur between DAP residues on adjacent peptides. The 3-3 cross-links are synthesized by the concerted action of d,d-carboxypeptidases and l,d-transpeptidases (Ldts). Mycobacterial genomes encode several Ldt proteins that can be classified into six classes based upon sequence identity.

Methods: A GPU software tool is developed for electron track simulations. A similar CPU version is also developed using the same collision models.
Sinus histiocytosis with massive lymphadenopathy (Rosai-Dorfman disease) being a rare benign proliferative self-limiting disease of the cells of macrophage-histiocyte family is of unknown etiology and presents with massive lymphadenopathy. We are hereby reporting a case of RDD presenting with massive bilateral cervical and submandibular lymphadenopathy, diagnosed by histocytopathology.

A computational approach based on the Monte Carlo technique to simulate track structures in a biological medium is currently the most reliable method for calculating the early effects induced by ionizing radiation on DNA, the primary cellular target of such effects. The Geant4-DNA Monte Carlo toolkit can simulate not only the physical, but also the physico-chemical and chemical stages of water radiolysis.

One of the methods used to inactivate viruses is exposure to high doses of ionizing radiation to damage their nucleic acids. While gamma (γ) rays effectively induce lesions in the RNA, envelope proteins are also highly damaged in the process.

Responses may vary with contextual factors, including whether the partner could be mentally fatigued or depleted. We hypothesized that limited willpower theorists - who believe self-control diminishes with use - might be especially likely to consider their partner's preceding mental exertion.

Background: There has been a rapid rise in the use of smart devices amongst medical practitioners throughout the world. This study aimed to identify how smart devices were being used by medical practitioners at the Universitas Academic Hospital (UAH), Bloemfontein, and the associated factors thereof. We also identified the views of medical practitioners regarding the usage of smart devices at their workplace.

To this end, radiobiological experiments exposing cell monolayers to three X-ray energies were performed in order to assess the yields of early DNA damage, in particular of double-strand breaks (DSBs). The simulation of these irradiations was set in order to understand the differences in the obtained experimental results.

It is based on the combination of Monte Carlo simulations of particle interactions when traversing an atomic resolution DNA geometrical model. In addition, the model emulates the induction of lethal damage from the interaction of two sublethal lesions, taken as double-strand breaks.

Spherical shaped gold nanoparticles of 30 nm diameter were placed in a micrometric (10 × 10 × 10 μm) water phantom containing a tube of 300 nm diameter and 5 μm length. The tube represented a mitochondrial fragment and nanoparticles were distributed in the water phantom outside the tube.
