The History of Home Cardiorespiratory Monitoring.

Home cardiorespiratory monitoring has changed significantly since it was first introduced in the 1970s. It has improved from a simple alarm system to a sophisticated piece of equipment capable of monitoring the patient's electrocardiogram, respiratory effort, and oxygen saturations. In addition, the indications for using a monitor have also changed.

Arteriovenous malformation identification after conservative management of placenta percreta with uterine artery embolization and adjunctive therapy.

Placenta percreta is a complication of pregnancy with significant morbidity and mortality rates. Conservative management may be considered when fertility preservation is desired or to possibly reduce morbidity when there is invasion of pelvic structures. We present 3 cases of antenatally diagnosed placenta percreta that were managed conservatively.

The effects of maternal position on the amniotic fluid index.

Objective: We investigated the influence of maternal positioning on the measurement of the amniotic fluid index (AFI) in third-trimester pregnancies. We wanted to determine whether a change in the position of the women, from supine-flat to supine-elevated, would influence the measurement of the AFI.

Methods: Each patient had AFI measurements obtained in both positions by the same investigator.

Limitations of barium enema performed as an adjunct to incomplete colonoscopy.

Purpose: Colonoscopy is believed to be inadequate in 4 to 24 percent of procedures. Barium enema often is utilized to complete the examination. In radiology literature, a successful barium enema in this setting requires only that the cecum has been reached.

Elective and emergency transabdominal cervicoisthmic cerclage for cervical incompetence.

Objective: To evaluate the success rate of transabdominal cervicoisthmic cerclage (TACIC) as an elective and emergency procedure for cervical incompetence in comparison to reported success rates for vaginal cerclage.

Study Design: Retrospective review was performed of the hospital records of patients and their neonates who underwent TACIC for cervical incompetence by the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Service, Harrisburg Hospital. Data regarding procedure indications, maternal age, gravidity/parity, gestational age at time of placement, pregnancy outcome, delivery age and fetal weight at delivery were recorded.
