A Community-Engaged, Mixed-Methods Approach to Prioritizing Needs in a Statewide Assessment of Community Cancer Needs.

Introduction: Kentucky has the highest all-site cancer incidence and death rate in the US. In 2021, the University of Kentucky Markey Cancer Center convened a steering committee to conduct a statewide community cancer needs assessment (CNA). The goal of the final CNA phase was to gather community input on prioritizing Kentucky's cancer-related needs and ways to address them.

The relationship between non-communicable disease risk and mental wellbeing in adolescence: a cross-sectional study utilising objective measures in Indonesia.

Background: Risk factors for non-communicable diseases (NCDs, cardiovascular diseases, cancers, chronic respiratory diseases, diabetes, and mental disorders) arise in adolescence but are mostly framed as relevant to health in adulthood; little is known about the relationship between co-occurring NCD risks and mental wellbeing in young people. This study aims to describe the prevalence and co-occurrence of distinct NCD risk factors, and how they relate to current mental wellbeing amongst adolescents in Indonesia, a young and populous country where NCD burden is increasing rapidly.

Methods: We assessed NCD risk and mental wellbeing amongst 1,331 school-based 16-18-year-olds in Jakarta (N = 609) and South Sulawesi (N = 722).

Objective: Infections during pregnancy can increase the risk of congenital hearing loss. This population-based study investigated the effect of birthing parent COVID-19 infection during pregnancy on risk of congenital hearing loss in infants.

Methods: Records of infants born in 2022 were reviewed via a retrospective clinical audit of a universal state-wide newborn hearing screening program in Victoria, Australia.

The Kids Hurt App: Development and testing of a web-based, pain self-report app for First Nations youth.

Background: First Nations children and youth may have unique ways to convey their health needs that have not been recognized by health providers. This may contribute to the disparity between high rates of mental health and physical pain and the low rates of treatment for the conditions they experience. Evidence suggests a colonial history has resulted in poor experiences with the healthcare system, lack of trust with health providers and miscommunication between clinicians and patients.

Background: In women with platinum sensitive recurrent ovarian cancer (PSROC) undergoing maintenance treatment, adverse events (AEs) not attributable to the current treatment are not well understood. We used data from SOLO2/ENGOT-Ov21 to evaluate AEs reported in the placebo arm and to explore their longitudinal trajectories.

Methods: SOLO2/ENGOT-Ov21 (NCT01874353) randomly assigned 295 PSROC participants with a BRCA1/2 mutation to maintenance olaparib tablets (N = 196) or matching placebo (N = 99).

The use of formal language as a strong sign of verbal autistic children in diglossic communities: The case of Arabic.

The current study aimed to investigate whether the use of formal language (Modern Standard Arabic [MSA]) by young children in diglossic Arab communities offers diagnostic insights, especially for verbal autistic children and to further explore this phenomenon. We used a cohort study design, with 4-6-year-old fluent first language Arabic-speaking children attending Arabic Kindergartens in two representative Kuwait governates. Reported cases for MSA use were assessed via a computer-based structured language test and corroborated cases were further assessed for exposure to sources of MSA, verbal IQ, temperamental characteristics, and autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

Exploring the Experiences and Perceptions of the Utilisation of Structured Clinical Handover Frameworks by Nurses Working in Acute Care Settings: A Scoping Review.

Background: There is increased interest in implementing structured clinical handover frameworks to improve clinical handover processes. Research postulates that structured clinical handover frameworks increase the quality of handovers; yet inconsistencies enacting these frameworks exist which has a potential to jeopardise the quality of communication during handovers thereby defeating the purpose of these frameworks.

Aim: This scoping review aims to analyse and synthesise what is currently known of the nurses' experiences and perceptions in implementing structured clinical handover frameworks and identify knowledge gaps in relation to this topic area.

Dengue Virus Serotype 3 Origins and Genetic Dynamics, Jamaica.

We identified 3 clades of dengue virus serotype 3 belonging to genotype III isolated during 2019-2020 in Jamaica by using whole-genome sequencing and phylogenomic and phylogeographic analyses. The viruses likely originated from Asia in 2014. Newly expanded molecular surveillance efforts in Jamaica will guide appropriate public health responses.

Youth Participatory Action Communication Research: A Model for Developing Youth-Driven Health Campaigns.

Youth offer valuable insight on health communication needs and solutions in their communities. We propose youth participatory action communication research (YPACR) as a model for health campaign development that engages youth perspectives in applying systematic theory-informed communication research to addressing youth-identified health priorities. YPACR informed a series of paid high school internship programs in West Philadelphia, in which youth interns identified mental health help-seeking communication as a need among peers.

Methods: In this secondary analysis, demographic factors were compared between infants intubated by inexperienced operators and those intubated by experienced operators.

While moral concern for animals has become increasingly important for both consumer food choice and food policy makers, previous research demonstrated that meat eaters attribute lower moral status and mental capacities to animals raised for meat compared to non-food animals. The current research investigated whether this strategic flexibility in moral concern and mind perceptions also occurs when considering aquatic food animals and animals used for dairy and egg products, and the degree to which these concerns and perceptions are evident in pescatarians and vegetarians. While DVL binding to cholesterol is required for its membrane association, the specific structural requirements and cellular impacts of DVL-sterol association are unclear.
