Addressing the needs for cultural adaptation of DARE-keepin' it REAL among Brazilian students: strategies to improve implementation.

Background: The widely implemented prevention program in Brazil, PROERD (a translated version of the DARE-kiR program), showed no evidence of effect in preventing drug use in a recent trial. The lack of cultural adaptation and instructors' deviations from the curriculum were identified as potential reasons for its ineffectiveness. This study aims to identify points of inadequacy of the PROERD program for the Brazilian culture, suggesting strategies for revising the curriculum to improve implementation.

Versatility of the myocutaneous pectoralis major flap in oncology reconstruction: A literature review and practical application.

Pectoralis major muscle flaps are considered versatile and allow large reconstructions of anatomical defects within a single surgical procedure. Considered a "workhorse" due to these characteristics, the pectoralis major muscle is an excellent option for surgical reconstruction. Several uses of this flap are described in the literature, such as protection of the jugulocarotid system after cervical lymph node dissection, oral, cervical, breast, diaphragmatic, hypopharyngeal, pharyngeal, laryngeal, and esophageal reconstructions.

Management of massive hemothorax due to internal mammary pseudoaneurysm treated with angioembolization post-cesarean section involving traumatic fetal extraction: A case report.

Introduction: Pseudoaneurysm, or false aneurysm, is a clinical entity caused by rupture of the arterial wall, leading to blood leakage that is confined by sorroundig tissue. Massive hemothorax constitutes a life-threatening condition demanding timely and accurate medical response.

Case Report: A puerperal presented with a massive hemothorax precipitated by a traumatic cesarean section due to hemorrhage from a pseudoaneurysm of the left internal thoracic artery.

Sequential bilateral cochlear implant: long-term speech perception results in children first implanted at an early age.

Purpose: The study aims to assess the benefit of sequential bilateral cochlear implantation in children with congenital bilateral profound hearing loss, submitted to the first implant at an early age.

Methods: We enrolled all the bilateral sequential cochlear implanted children who received the first implant within 48 months and the second within 12 years of age at our Institution. The children were submitted to disyllabic word recognition tests and Speech Reception Threshold (SRT) assessment using the OLSA matrix sentence test with the first implanted device (CI1), with the second implanted device (CI2), and with both devices (CIbil).

A Rare Case of Perrault Syndrome with Auditory Neuropathy Spectrum Disorder: Cochlear Implantation Treatment and Literature Review.

Perrault syndrome (PRLTS) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder characterised by ovarian failure in females and sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) in both genders. In the present paper we describe a child affected by PRLTS3, due to CLPP homozygous mutations, presenting auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder (ANSD) with bilateral progressive SNHL. This is the first case reported in the literature of an ANSD in PRLTS3.

Extended-hearing targeted screening for congenital cytomegalovirus infection.

Background: The importance of neonatal screening for congenital cytomegalovirus infection (cCMV) is widely shared in the world scientific literature. However, currently, no programs for universal neonatal screening for cCMV have been reported in the literature, and only a few experiences of hearing targeted cCMV screening have been published. In the Tuscany Region, Italy, screening for cCMV has been mandatory since 2008 for each newborn that resulted as "refer" at the Transient Evoked Otoacoustics Emissions (TEOAE) Test, and in our university hospital since 2012, it has been extended to some categories at risk of cCMV.
