Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on comparing two nucleic acid (NA) extraction methods: a low-cost manual method (Qiagen kit or salting-out) and an automated, high-cost method (MagNAPure Compact) for molecular diagnosis in microbiology.
  • It highlights that while MagNAPure is as effective as the Qiagen method for various clinical specimens, it may not be suitable for extracting NA from blood samples.
  • The authors argue that despite its higher cost, the benefits of MagNAPure, such as reduced risk of cross-contamination and less hands-on time, make it a worthwhile option for laboratories.

Early identification and contact precautions implementation would help to interrupt transmission. In our hospital no carbapenemase-producing enterobacteria infections have been described.
