Disaccharide trehalose has been proven in many cases to be particularly effective in preserving the functional and structural integrity of biological macromolecules. In this work, we studied its effect on the electron transfer reactions that occur in the chromatophores of the photosynthetic bacterium . In the presence of a high concentration of trehalose, following the activation of the photochemistry by flashes of light, a slowdown of the electrogenic reactions related to the activity of the photosynthetic reaction center and cytochtome (cyt) complexes is observable.

Purpose: Despite advances in endovascular management of aorto-iliac occlusive disease (AIOD) including covered endovascular reconstruction of aortic bifurcation (CERAB) techniques, guidelines for management of symptomatic Trans-Atlantic Inter-Society Consensus (TASC II) type C/D lesions favour open surgical revascularisation. This meta-analysis investigates outcomes in patients with TASC II C/D lesions treated with open bypass procedures (OS), standard endovascular treatments (SEV) or CERAB.
Methods: Multiple databases (MEDLINE, EMBASE and the Cochrane database) were searched to identify studies reporting endovascular and open treatment of extensive AIOD.
The kinetics of flash-induced re-reduction of the Photosystem II (PS II) primary electron donor P was studied in solution and in trehalose glassy matrices at different relative humidity. In solution, and in the re-dissolved glass, kinetics were dominated by two fast components with lifetimes in the range of 2-7 μs, which accounted for >85% of the decay. These components were ascribed to the direct electron transfer from the redox-active tyrosine Y to P.

Since 2012, the Lifetime Immunization Schedule has represented a benchmark for Regional and National Authorities to set up the updated list of vaccines provided actively and free of charge to infants, children, adolescents, adults and the elderly by inclusion in the Triennial National Vaccination Plan (TNVP), and in the Essential Levels of Care (LEA). The impact of the different editions of the Lifetime Immunization Schedule on the TNVP was deep, representing the inspiring source for the present vaccination policy.

To shed light on such matrix effects, we have compared the retardation of protein dynamics in photosynthetic bacterial reaction centers (RC) dehydrated at controlled relative humidity in the absence (RC films) or in the presence of trehalose (RC-trehalose glasses). Small scale RC dynamics, associated with the relaxation from the dark-adapted to the light-adapted conformation, have been probed up to the second time scale by analyzing the kinetics of electron transfer from the photoreduced quinone acceptor (QA(-)) to the photoxidized primary donor (P(+)) as a function of the duration of photoexcitation from 7 ns (laser pulse) to 20 s.
