The Simultaneous Use of Bladder Epicheck and Urinary Cytology Can Improve the Sensitivity and Specificity of Diagnostic Follow-Up of Urothelial Lesions: Up-to-Date Data from a Multi-Institutional Cohort.

Bladder cancer is a prevalent urinary system malignancy and urinary cytology is widely used for its screening and follow-up. A novel diagnostic tool called Bladder Epicheck (BE) is increasingly being used for monitoring the recurrence of non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). The simultaneous use of BE and urinary cytology can increase the diagnostic performances in the follow-up of bladder neoplasms.

Immunohistochemical Profile of p62/SQSTM1/Sequestosome-1 in Human Low- and High-Grade Intracranial Meningiomas.

Among autophagic-related proteins, p62/SQSTM1/Sequestosome-1 represents a relevant actor in cellular proliferation and neoplastic growth. Although, recently, p62 expression has been analyzed in different neurodegenerative and glial neoplastic diseases, no available information have been reported in meningiomas, which have an high epidemiological relevance being the second most common category of intracranial tumors after gliomas. Generally meningiomas have a benign behavior, but their recurrence is not uncommon mainly when atypical or anaplastic varieties occur.

Improvements and future perspective in diagnostic tools for neuroendocrine neoplasms.

Introduction: Neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) represent a complex group of tumors arising from neuroendocrine cells, characterized by heterogeneous behavior and challenging diagnostics. Despite advancements in medical technology, NENs present a major challenge in early detection, often leading to delayed diagnosis and variable outcomes. This review aims to provide an in-depth analysis of current diagnostic methods as well as the evolving and future directions of diagnostic strategies for NENs.

The Morphology of Nasal Polyps in Different Age Groups: Histopathological Features.

Background: Nasal polyps (NPs) represent the end-stage manifestation of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS), a relatively common pathological condition encountered in all ages of life.

Methodology: The aim of our study was to evaluate the histological features and inflammatory cellular components of NPs in a retrospective cohort (143 cases) of pediatric, adult and elderly populations in order to discuss the possible morphological age-related differences statistically documented.

Results: In the pediatric group, the inflammatory infiltrate presented many eosinophils mixed with lymphocytes, while in the adult population, lymphocytes and plasma cells were mainly evident, frequently with a perivascular distribution or with the formation of subepithelial lymphoid nodules.

Objectives: In a context of heparin shortage, we studied the wasted quantities in three intensive care units (ICU) of a university hospital where two electric syringe pump (ESP) heparin protocols coexist (20,000UI/48mL used in the cardiology ICU and 25,000UI/50mL use in the medical and surgical ICUs).

Method: We performed a prospective observational study of patients treated with heparin ESP. We collected the information recorded in the prescription software connected to the ESP (dosage, start time, infusion rate, interruption times, date and time of end of treatment).

Cutaneous melanoma (CM) is traditionally considered one of the most "immunogenic" tumors, eliciting a high immune response. The PD-1 (programmed death-1)/PD-L1 (programmed death-ligand 1) axis is a well-known immune escape system adopted by neoplastic cells.

Recent advances in JAK inhibitors for the treatment of metabolic syndrome.

With an epidemic spread, metabolic syndrome represents an increasingly emerging risk for the population globally, and is currently recognized as a pathological entity. It is represented by a cluster of different conditions including increased blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess body fat around the waist and abnormal cholesterol or triglyceride levels. These conditions lead directly to several disorders, including obesity, dyslipidemia, hyperglycaemia, insulin resistance, impaired glucose tolerance and hypertension causing an increase in cardiovascular risk and in particular atherosclerotic disease.

Low and Ultra-Low HER2 in Human Breast Cancer: An Effort to Define New Neoplastic Subtypes.

HER2-low and ultra-low breast cancer (BC) have been recently proposed as new subcategories of HER2 BC, supporting a re-consideration of immunohistochemical negative scores of 0, 1+ and the 2+/in situ hybridization (ISH) negative phenotype. In the present review, we outline the criteria needed to exactly distinguish HER2-low and ultra-low BC. Recent clinical trials have demonstrated significant clinical benefits of novel HER2 directing antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) in treating these groups of tumors.

Bladder Epicheck Test: A Novel Tool to Support Urothelial Carcinoma Diagnosis in Urine Samples.

Bladder cancer and upper urothelial tract carcinoma are common diseases with a high risk of recurrence, thus necessitating follow-up after initial treatment. The management of non-muscle invasive bladder carcinoma (NMIBC) after transurethral resection involves surveillance, intravesical therapy, and cytology with cystoscopy. Urinary cytology, cystoscopy, and radiological evaluation of the upper urinary tract are recommended during follow-up in the international urological guidelines.

Autophagic-Related Proteins in Brain Gliomas: Role, Mechanisms, and Targeting Agents.

The present review focuses on the phenomenon of autophagy, a catabolic cellular process, which allows for the recycling of damaged organelles, macromolecules, and misfolded proteins. The different steps able to activate autophagy start with the formation of the autophagosome, mainly controlled by the action of several autophagy-related proteins. It is remarkable that autophagy may exert a double role as a tumour promoter and a tumour suppressor.

FIFA 11+ Kids: Challenges in implementing a prevention program.

Purpose: Soccer is a popular sport among children and adolescents that exposes to a high risk of injury. Several prevention programs, including the FIFA 11+ Kids program have been developed to decrease this injury rate. The aim of the study was to investigate the knowledge and use of the FIFA 11+ Kids program among soccer coaches of skeletally immature soccer players in a Swiss canton and analyze difficulties of implementing such a prevention program.

Novel techniques for wide-field retinal photography in neonates and infants.

Wide-field fundus photography can assist with diagnosis of pathology, enable monitoring of treatment response, and aid in maintaining an accurate clinical record. In neonates and very young children, obtaining good-quality images can be extremely challenging. We describe four novel and safe techniques for acquiring fundus images in children <1 year of age using a noncontact ultrawide-field camera (Optos Inc, Marlborough, MA), without requiring invasive techniques, such as using an eyelid speculum or anesthesia.

Low-concentration atropine eyedrops for myopia control in a multi-racial cohort of Australian children: A randomised clinical trial.

Background: To test the hypothesis that 0.01% atropine eyedrops are a safe and effective myopia-control approach in Australian children.

Methods: Children (6-16 years; 49% Europeans, 18% East Asian, 22% South Asian, and 12% other/mixed ancestry) with documented myopia progression were enrolled into this single-centre randomised, parallel, double-masked, placebo-controlled trial and randomised to receive 0.

Prevalence of Toxoplasmic Retinochoroiditis in an Australian Adult Population: A Community-Based Study.

Purpose: Toxoplasmic retinochoroiditis is the most common clinical manifestation of an infection with the protozoan parasite, Toxoplasma gondii. Up to 50% of the human population is estimated to be infected with T. gondii; however, the epidemiology of toxoplasmic retinochoroiditis has not been widely reported.

The effect of transverse ocular magnification adjustment on macular thickness profile in different refractive errors in community-based adults.

Purpose: Changes in retinal thickness are common in various ocular diseases. Transverse magnification due to differing ocular biometrics, in particular axial length, affects measurement of retinal thickness in different regions. This study evaluated the effect of axial length and refractive error on measured macular thickness in two community-based cohorts of healthy young adults.

Primary orbital melanoma arising in an atypical diffuse (plaque-like) blue naevus/melanocytosis: a case report and review of literature.

Background: Primary orbital melanoma is a rare disease and can occasionally develop from a pre-existing neoplasm of the blue naevus family of melanocytic lesions.

Case Presentation: Herein we report a rare case of primary orbital melanoma arising from an unusual atypical diffuse (plaque-like) blue naevus/melanocytosis. A 27 year old man presented with mild pain and swelling of the left eye.
