Objectives: To evaluate the learning climate (LC) and quality of training in postgraduate training courses in gynecology and obstetrics in Italy, as essential element to improve the training quality of future medical specialists.
Study Design: Web-based anonymous survey sent to all Italian trainees in gynecology and obstetrics to assess LC and quality of postgraduate training courses. This included sociodemographic information, details regarding training positions, and a 50-item validated Dutch Residency Educational Climate Test (D-RECT) questionnaire with 11 subscales (1-5 Likert scale).
Objectives: The prevalence and clinical implications of small airways involvement in SSc are still to be fully elucidated. The goal of the present work is to assess the prevalence of small airways dysfunction by impulse oscillometry and to determine whether it correlates with selected disease-related features and respiratory-related quality of life.
Methods: Ninety-four SSc patients and 93 healthy controls were studied by impulse oscillometry measurements.

The purpose of this short review is to discuss the effects of eccentric exercise in modifying the properties of tendon tissue in healthy individuals. The tendon provides a mechanical link between muscle and bone, allowing force transmission to the skeleton, and thus, its properties have significant functional implications. Chronic resistance training has long been shown to increase the stiffness and Young's modulus of the tendon and even tendon cross-sectional area.

A great hallmark of breast cancer is the absence or presence of estrogen receptors ERα and ERβ, with a dominant role in cell proliferation, differentiation and cancer progression. Both receptors are related with Epithelial-to-Mesenchymal Transition (EMT) since there is a relation between ERs and extracellular matrix (ECM) macromolecules expression, and therefore, cell-cell and cell-ECM interactions. The endocrine resistance of ERα endows epithelial cells with increased aggressiveness and induces cell proliferation, resulting into a mesenchymal phenotype and an EMT status.

Ever since the HPSE was identified in the late 1980s, several experimental studies have shown that its overexpression was instrumental in increasing tumor growth, metastatic dissemination, angiogenesis and inflammation. More recently, HPSE involvment has also been demonstrated in mediating tumor-host crosstalk, in inducing gene transcription, in the activation of signaling pathways and in the formation of exosomes and in autophagy.

This study aimed to evaluate surgical, oncologic, and urinary outcomes of a new surgical technique based on vaginal flap to perform neomeatus reconstruction after distal urethral resection in radical surgery for vulvar cancer.
Methods: Retrospective cohort study between January 2005 and December 2017.
Purpose: To investigate the expression of biological markers in primary vulvar Paget's disease (VPD).
Methods: Forty-one patients referred to a single major Center for Gynecologic Oncology from January 2008 to June 2018 were enrolled retrospectively: 30 non-invasive-VPD and 11 invasive-VPD. A total number of 60 samples, from all the 41 vulvar sites (VS), 8 metastatic lymph node sites (MLS) and 11 successive recurrent disease in vulvar site (RVS), were tested for an immunohistochemical panel, including the following markers: PD-L1, CD3, MSH2, MSH6, MLH1, PMS2, HER2/neu, EGFR, p16, p53, Ki67, ER, PR, AR, VEGF and CD31.
Purpose: Information on access and adherence to positive airway pressure (PAP) treatment is lacking at the regional level in Latin America. This study characterized access and adherence to PAP in patients with moderate-severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in Latin America.
Methods: Cross-sectional study, conducted at 9 sleep centers across Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru.

Study Design: We prospectively evaluated the obstetrical and perineal outcomes of all consecutive women who delivered at the Del Ponte Hospital, in the period between July 2014 and September 2014. Women were divided into three groups according to the features of physical activity performed before pregnancy: group 1: "very sporty women," group 2: "moderately sporty women," and group 3: "inactive women.

We tested whether prominent polymorphisms in genes for angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE), tenascin-C (TNC), and actinin-3 (ACTN3) are associated with the differentiation of cellular hallmarks of muscle metabolism and contraction in high level athletes.
Methods: Muscle biopsies were collected from of three distinct phenotypes; endurance athletes ( = 29), power athletes ( = 17), and untrained non-athletes ( = 63).
Introduction: Early ovarian cancer (EOC) is defined as ovarian cancer macroscopically limited to the ovaries at the time of initial diagnosis. Approximately only 25% of patients with ovarian cancer are affected by EOC. This condition requires complete surgical staging, including systematic lymphadenectomy up to the level of the renal vessels, with the consequent risk of complications and morbidity.

Objectives: The objectives of this study were to evaluate whether the international recommendations on the management of uterine papillary serous carcinoma arising in a polyp are uniformly followed in Italian Oncologic Centers and whether the strategy adopted is effective.
Materials And Methods: Patients with uterine papillary serous carcinoma arising in a polyp and who had undergone a hysterectomy were identified in the 2003-2013 database of 7 Italian Gynecologic Oncology Centers. Clinical and pathologic characteristics and outcomes were compared between staging procedure types.
Background: Cardiovascular diseases are the leading causes of death worldwide, and coronary artery disease (CAD) is one of the most common causes of death in Europe. Leading cardiac societies recommend exercise as an integral part of cardiovascular rehabilitation because it reduces the morbidity and mortality of patients with CAD. Continuous low-intensity exercise using shortening muscle actions (concentric, CON) is a common training modality during cardiovascular rehabilitation.

Resistance training involving high movement velocities represents a valid strategy to slow down the rate of sarcopenia, counteracting the loss of muscle mass and muscle power. Plyometric exercise may represent an effective training modality for increasing muscle power; however, its application in older populations has been sparingly investigated, as the high impact actions involved may reduce its feasibility for older individuals.

Study Design: Data about all UTV-CS between January 2013 and December 2017 were retrieved searching the diagnosis of bladder injury and bladder repair during caesarean section (CS) in our comprehensive computerized labor and delivery database and register. CS with bladder wall injury not classified as UTV-CS were excluded.
Purpose: To evaluate the effect of a collagen-fibrin sealant patch (TachoSil®) in preventing postoperative complications after inguinofemoral lymphadenectomy for vulvar cancer.
Methods: Double-blind randomized-controlled trial on consecutive patients undergoing bilateral inguinofemoral lymphadenectomy for vulvar cancer. Intraoperatively, inguinofemoral areas were randomized: one was treated with TachoSil®, while the contralateral had standard closure without collagen-fibrin sealant patch.
Competitive alpine skiers are subject to substantial risks of injury, especially concerning the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). During "landing back weighted" episodes, hamstrings may partially counteract the anterior shear force acting on the tibia by eccentrically resisting the boot-induced drawer of the tibia relative to the femur. The aim of the present study was to provide novel descriptive data and sport-specific reference values on maximal eccentric hamstrings strength (MEHS) in competitive alpine skiers from youth to elite level, and to explore potential relationships with sex, age and biological maturation.
