This study presents updated information on post-endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) late aortic rupture (LAR) as the data in the literature are limited. It comprises a meta-analysis based on the recent evidence regarding the incidence, causes, treatment outcomes, and prognosis of post-EVAR. A meta-analysis was conducted according to the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines.

Introduction: Postpneumonectomy empyema (PPE) poses a substantial postoperative risk, even in the absence of a bronchopleural fistula, often necessitating surgical intervention for resolution.

Aim: To evaluate the efficacy of video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) in managing PPE, supported by a comprehensive review of pertinent literature.

Material And Methods: Six studies were included in this analysis, encompassing 63 PPE cases treated with VATS.

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) is a rare mesenchymal tumor classified as an intermediate malignancy that rarely metastasizes. The most common site for IMTs is the lung, though they can develop in various other anatomical locations. Pulmonary IMTs are more common in children and adolescents and are infrequently diagnosed in adults.

Article Synopsis
  • One third of organ donors experience catastrophic brain injury (CBI), but there’s no standardized management for traumatic CBI among trauma centers, leading to variability in practices.
  • A multicenter trial involving 33 trauma centers analyzed 790 CBI patients to investigate whether institutions with CBI guidelines had higher organ donation rates.
  • While centers with CBI guidelines showed greater use of certain treatments, the presence of guidelines did not significantly increase organ donation rates; however, hormone therapies were linked to a higher likelihood of donation.

  • * A case report details a successful RIRS procedure in a 2-year-old boy with multiple large kidney stones, where no complications occurred and the patient was discharged the next day.
  • * Effective management of kidney stones in young children requires careful preoperative planning and the right tools, leading to better outcomes and fewer complications.

Introduction: Surgical site infections (SSIs) after colorectal surgery remain a significant concern, which warrants effective predictive markers for prompt diagnosis and treatment. Butyrylcholinesterase (BChE), a non-specific cholinesterase enzyme, has been correlated with the risk of hepatic dysfunction progression and, more recently, infectious diseases and septic shock with ongoing research into the utility of BChE in multiple systemic inflammatory conditions. Whether these preliminary results can be translated into predicting infection after colorectal surgery remains in remains in question.

  • * EPs can appear in various body parts, including the lungs, breasts, and abdominal organs, making them tough to diagnose due to their similar imaging characteristics to other conditions.
  • * The review highlights the importance of imaging for detecting EPs, but emphasizes that a histological confirmation is essential for an accurate diagnosis, especially for patients with a history of multiple myeloma, as timely diagnosis can greatly improve

Article Synopsis
  • - Cardiac myxomas, the most common benign heart tumors, can cause a wide range of symptoms based on their size, from mild to severe life-threatening conditions.
  • - A 68-year-old woman experienced acute heart failure due to a left atrial myxoma that obstructed her mitral valve, requiring emergency surgery.
  • - After surgery, which involved valve replacement and repair, the patient needed extracorporeal life support but ultimately recovered well and remained asymptomatic at follow-up, underscoring the importance of recognizing cardiac myxomas in similar cases.

Background: Phyllodes tumors (PTs) of the breast are uncommon fibroepithelial neoplasms that tend to recur locally and may have metastatic potential. Their pathogenesis is poorly understood. Hippo signaling pathway plays an essential role in organ size control, tumor suppression, tissue regeneration and stem cell self-renewal.

The isolated heart perfusion model, a fundamental tool in cardiovascular research, has evolved significantly since its inception in the late 19 century. This review traces the development of the isolated heart model, from its early adaptations by pioneers such as Langendorff and Starling to modern advancements by researchers like Morgan and Neely. We discuss the various applications of the model in pharmacological testing, disease modeling, and educational settings, emphasizing its crucial role in understanding cardiac function and disease mechanisms.

The presence and contribution of senescent cells in premalignant lesions is well documented, but not in germ cell neoplasia in situ. The purpose of this study is to identify the presence of senescent cells in pre-malignant testicular conditions and in different histological types of testicular cancer. Thirty patients who underwent orchiectomy due to testicular tumors were included.

Article Synopsis
  • Significant unprotected left main (ULM) disease is a serious heart condition that requires quick treatment because it can cause major heart problems.
  • A study called NOBLE didn't show that one treatment method (PCI) is better than another (CABG), but other studies showed both methods have similar results.
  • It's important for doctors to keep researching to find the best treatments for this heart condition, especially with new technologies and medicines.

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic has had an influence on the number of patients presenting to the emergency department (ED) with surgical conditions.

Aim: To evaluate the number of patients presenting with acute appendicitis (AA) and the percentage of complicated appendicitis before and after the COVID-19 disease outbreak.

Material And Methods: This is a retrospective study based on the data of all patients presenting with AA to the ED of a tertiary COVID referral university hospital in Greece.

Background: The economic crisis that began in 2008 has severely affected Southern (Greece, Italy, Portugal, Spain) Western European (SWE) countries of Western Europe (WE) and may have affected ongoing efforts to eliminate viral hepatitis. This study was conducted to investigate the impact of the economic crisis on the burden of HBV and HCV disease.

Methods: Global Burden of Diseases 2019 data were used to analyse the rates of epidemiological metrics of HBV and HCV acute and chronic infections in SWE and WE.

Doege-Potter syndrome (DPS), a rare paraneoplastic phenomenon characterised by non-islet cell tumour hypoglycaemia (NICTH), presents clinicians with intricate diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. This comprehensive review consolidates current understanding, clinical presentations, diagnostic modalities, therapeutic interventions, and emerging trends in managing DPS. The pathophysiology of DPS revolves around dysregulated insulin-like growth factors (IGF), particularly IGF-2, produced by mesenchymal tumours, notably solitary fibrous tumours (SFT).

Aortoenteric fistula (AEF) is defined as the abnormal communication between the aorta and the gastrointestinal tract. AEFs are divided into primary and secondary usually after abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) recovery and are a rare but quite dangerous cause of gastrointestinal bleeding that the general surgeon may face during his/her career. Secondary AEF was first described in 1953 to a 44-year-old woman 3 months after an AAA operation.
