Article Synopsis
  • A 61-year-old woman developed acute cytolytic hepatitis one week after completing a 24-week regimen of pulse itraconazole therapy for onychomycosis, leading to liver transplantation.
  • Monitoring of liver enzymes wasn't performed during treatment, and her condition deteriorated rapidly, with extremely high liver enzyme levels indicating severe liver damage.
  • The case highlights the potential risk of acute hepatitis linked to prolonged itraconazole use, even in previously asymptomatic patients, suggesting a need for closer monitoring during treatment.
