Steam-exploded (SE) poplar wood biomass was hydrolyzed by means of a blend of Celluclast and Novozym cellulase complexes in the presence of the inhibiting compounds produced during the preceding steam-explosion pretreatment process. The SE temperature and time conditions were 214 degrees C and 6 min, resulting in a log R(0) of 4.13.

Article Synopsis
  • A new experimental technique using a continuous stirred-tank reactor is introduced for examining enzyme kinetics when substrates are contaminated with inhibitors.
  • The method is mathematically simulated to analyze various inhibition types: competitive, uncompetitive, and mixed-type noncompetitive.
  • The study includes a detailed experimental procedure and data analysis approach for identifying kinetic parameters, alongside illustrations of how enzyme inhibition differs based on excess substrate versus impurities.
