Results of a Retrospective Fracture Register of Distal Radius Fractures Built Up Using PROM.

Introduction: Although distal radius fractures (DRFs) are the most common fractures of the human body, the best treatment for every fracture type is still debatable. However, randomized controlled trials are difficult to perform. The quality of care can be determined primarily in the context of health care research using register studies.

Evaluation of Acute Glial Fibrillary Acidic Protein and Ubiquitin C-Terminal Hydrolase-L1 Plasma Levels in Traumatic Brain Injury Patients with and without Intracranial Lesions.

This pilot study aimed to evaluate the association of plasma ubiquitin C-terminal hydrolase-L1 (UCH-L1), glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), and S100 calcium-binding protein B (S100B) with intracranial abnormalities visible on a computed tomography (CT) scan (CT positive) and injury severity in acute traumatic brain injury (TBI). For these purposes, a cohort of 109 adult TBI patients was recruited within 6 h from the injury event. A hyperacute subcohort of 20 patients who had their blood collected within 2 h from injury was analyzed separately for early acute biomarker levels.

Is early full weight bearing safe following locking plate ORIF of distal fibula fractures?

Background: In the modern western world appraisal of economical points such as treatment and disability after trauma present a financial burden. In this context open reduction internal fixation techniques allowing for early full weight bearing might not only improve the clinical outcome but also shorten the period of disability in working life. The aim of the study was to analyze whether ORIF of ankle fractures using either a standard semitubular plate or a new polyaxial locking plate system result in a better clinical outcome.

The influence of foehn winds on the incidence of severe injuries in southern Bavaria - an analysis of the TraumaRegister DGU®.

Background: Foehn describes a wind which occurs in areas with close proximity to mountains. The presence of foehn wind is associated with worsening health conditions. This study analyzes the correlation between a foehn typical circulation and the incidence for suffering a severe trauma.

The Outcome of Distal Radius Fractures with Concomitant Injuries Is Similar to those of Isolated Distal Radius Fractures Provided that an Arthroscopically Supported Treatment Is Performed.

Background: Concomitant injuries of distal radius fractures (DRF) can have a fatal impact on the patients' outcome. However, wrist arthroscopy is a costly and complex procedure. It remains elusive whether patients benefit from an additional arthroscopy.

Concomitant Intra-Articular Glenohumeral Lesions in Fractures of the Scapula Body.

Background: Scapula body fractures are rare injuries with an incidence of 1% of all fractures accounting for 3% to 5% of all upper extremity fractures. Fractures of the scapula commonly result from high-energetic trauma and fall from great height. While several studies focused on concomitant injuries of chest and head as well as the cervical spine, up to now in the common literature, no study exists analyzing the prevalence of concomitant intra-articular glenohumeral injury following extra-articular scapular fracture.

Background: The temporal distribution of trauma mortality has been classically described as a trimodal pattern with an immediate, early and late peak. In modern health care systems this time distribution has changed.

Methods: Data from the TraumaRegister DGU was analysed retrospectively.

Effect of private versus emergency medical systems transportation in trauma patients in a mostly physician based system- a retrospective multicenter study based on the TraumaRegister DGU®.

Background: The effects of private transportation (PT) to definitive trauma care in comparison to transportation using Emergency Medical Services (EMS) have so far been addressed by a few studies, with some of them finding a beneficial effect on survival. The aim of the current study was to investigate epidemiology, pre- and in-hospital times as well as outcomes in patients after PT as compared to EMS recorded in the TraumaRegister DGU®.

Methods: All patients in the database of the TraumaRegister DGU® (TR-DGU) from participating European trauma centers treated in 2009 to 2013 with available data on the mode of transportation, ISS ≥ 4 and ICU treatment were included in the study.

[Rehabilitation after polytrauma : Definitions and treatment approaches].

After initial resuscitation and surgical reconstruction of structural damages, the functional rehabilitation is one of the critical columns of polytraumatized patient management. This programme starts as early as the initial therapy in the trauma bay and proceeds until socio-professional reintegration of the patient into his pre-traumatic environment.Thus, three phases of a rehabilitation were identified: the early rehabilitation, the post-acute rehabilitation and the continuative rehabilitation.
