Fibromyalgia associated with repeated gadolinium contrast-enhanced MRI examinations.

We report a case of a fibromyalgia (FM) patient with an history of brain-cancer presenting signs and symptoms of gadolinium toxicity following repeated administrations of a macrocyclic contrast agent, Gadovist. In the present report, we provide evidence supporting the hypothesis of a causal relationship linking gadolinium deposition to a clinical manifestation of disease, namely fibromyalgia. We unravel a role for gadolinium in the still unknown etiology of fibromyalgia as a metal toxicity disorder.

Prognostic nutritional index as a prognostic marker in glioblastoma: Data from a cohort of 282 Italian patients.

Preoperative prognostic nutritional index (PNI) is linked to the clinical outcome of patients with malignant tumours, however few studies have investigated its utility in predicting outcome in glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). We performed a retrospective study on adult patients with GBM in order to evaluate the impact of PNI on overall survival (OS), after adjusting for known prognostic factor (age, extent of surgery, Karnofsky performance status, radiochemotherapy). This is an Italian, multicentre, retrospective, cohort study.

Antiepileptic treatment and survival in newly diagnosed glioblastoma patients: Retrospective multicentre study in 285 Italian patients.

Different studies have suggested a possible impact of antiepileptic drugs (AED) on survival in patients with GBM. Unusual behaviour of a pineal germinoma mimicking neurosarcoidosis and metastasising along the endoscopic route.

A previously healthy man underwent endoscopic biopsy for a suspected pineal germinoma. Histology and immunohistochemistry did not confirm the preoperative diagnosis, and neurosarcoidosis was hypothesised because of the presence of granulomatous reaction. The patient remained in good health for 3 years and was still asymptomatic when a control MRI showed metastasis implantation along the endoscopic route.

Multicentre prospective collection of newly diagnosed glioblastoma patients: update on the Lombardia experience.

A prospective collection of newly diagnosed cases of grade IV glioma in Lombardia, Italy, was started in 2003. In the present report, data are shown on 349 adult patients recruited up to 2005. The clinical features, pattern of care and outcome are discussed, together with the main prognostic factors.
