Surveillance procedures for patients treated for endometrial cancer: a review of the literature.

Objectives: The aim of this review was to analyze the role of follow-up in patients treated for endometrial cancer and to provide some compelling issues that may contribute to improve daily practice while waiting for evidence-based guidelines.

Methods/materials: A literature search has been conducted in MEDLINE database using key words "endometrial neoplasms" and "follow up".

Results: Endometrial cancer represents the most common gynecologic malignancy after breast cancer.

Early stage cervical cancer: adjuvant treatment in negative lymph node cases.

Objectives: In early stage cervical carcinoma, most studies of the literature show that adjuvant radiotherapy significantly reduced local relapse; its impact on survival improvement is controversial. In this retrospective study, we analyze the role of adjuvant radiotherapy in negative node patients and the possibility of this treatment to improve survival in selected groups.

Methods: Four hundred fifty-four patients with stage IB-IIA carcinoma of the uterine cervix were treated with primary radical hysterectomy and pelvic lymphadenectomy.

Pre-chemotherapy hemoglobin levels and survival in patients with advanced epithelial ovarian cancer who received a first-line taxane/platinum-based regimen: results of a multicenter retrospective Italian study.

Objective: The aim of this retrospective multicenter study was to assess whether the pre-chemotherapy hemoglobin levels have any impact on the clinical outcome of patients with advanced epithelial ovarian cancer who received a first-line taxane/platinum-based regimen.

Methods: The study was conducted on 315 patients who underwent initial surgery followed by taxane/platinum-based chemotherapy for FIGO stage IIc-IV epithelial ovarian cancer. All the patients had ECOG performance status 0-1 at presentation.
