Article Synopsis
  • The study examines the use of regorafenib as maintenance therapy in RAS wild-type metastatic colorectal cancer patients following initial chemotherapy and anti-EGFR treatment, but the trial was stopped early due to slow participant recruitment and funding issues.
  • Although the sample size was too small for robust statistical analysis, toxicity levels were acceptable, and while median progression-free survival (PFS) was similar for both regorafenib and placebo groups, some patients on regorafenib showed notably prolonged PFS.
  • The findings indicate that regorafenib may not have significant effects in the maintenance setting, but there's potential for identifying certain patient subgroups that could benefit from it.

Article Synopsis
  • - A heavily pretreated breast cancer patient with multiple bone metastases was treated with eribulin mesylate after failing numerous other therapies, including doxorubicin and tamoxifen.
  • - The patient received a total of 14 courses of eribulin, with significant tumor response observed after six cycles, as shown by MRI results indicating a decrease in cancer spread and changes in bone lesions.
  • - The treatment was well-tolerated without unexpected acute toxicity, suggesting that eribulin may be an effective option for patients who have undergone multiple lines of chemotherapy.

The authors focused on the current surgical treatment of resectable gastric cancer, and significance of peri- and post-operative chemo or chemoradiation. Gastric cancer is the 4(th) most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death worldwide. Surgery remains the only curative therapy, while perioperative and adjuvant chemotherapy, as well as chemoradiation, can improve outcome of resectable gastric cancer with extended lymph node dissection.

Background: Cognitive-Behavioural Family Therapy (CBFT) can be an effective psychological approach for children with beta-thalassaemia major, increasing compliance to treatment, lessening the emotional burden of disease, and improving the quality of life of caregivers.

Design And Methods: Twenty-eight beta-thalassaemic major children that followed CBFT for one year were compared with twenty-eight age-matched healthy children, focusing particularly on behavioural, mood, and temperamental characteristics as well as compliance with chelation, assessed using the Child Behaviour Checklist (CBCL), Children's Depression Inventory (CDI), Multidimensional Anxiety Scale for Children (MASC), and Emotionality, Activity, Sociability and Shyness Scale (EAS). We also monitored the quality of life of caregiving mothers using the World Health Organization Quality Of Life (WHOQOL-BREF) questionnaire.
