Kidney diseases during chemotherapy treatment are variable, with different manifestations depending on the drugs used. Trifluridine/tipiracil is a treatment used in refractory metastatic digestive cancers. Its renal toxicity is poorly described.

Methods: Seventy-nine patients underwent comprehensive cardiovascular imaging modalities including transthoracic echocardiography, cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging, and tomographic equilibrium radionuclide ventriculography (ERV) for the assessment of RV function.
Platelets have largely demonstrated their implication in anti-infectious immunity. This effect is ensured by the secreted molecules stored mostly in platelet alpha granules. Previous studies have reported that showed sensitivity to this antibacterial effect of platelets.

Marseille-P3275 was non-motile and did not form spores. Cells had neither catalase nor oxidase activity.

It was isolated from the fecal flora of a healthy 49-year-old Brazilian male.

Methods: We retrospectively report the clinical management of 3,737 screened patients, including 3,119 (83.
Aims: Advances have been made over the last decade in the management of cardiac amyloidosis (CA), but a delayed diagnosis is still common. The aim of this study was to describe the journey to CA diagnosis from initial clinical and to analyse time to diagnosis.
Methods And Results: Between January 2001 and May 2019, 270 consecutive patients with CA diagnosed at Toulouse University Hospital were retrospectively included in this cross-sectional study: 111 (41%) light chain amyloidosis, 122 (45%) wild-type transthyretin amyloidosis, and 37 (14%) hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis.

Using a taxonogenomics method, we describe here a Gram-negative bacterium named sp. nov., strain Marseille-P4334 (= CSUR P4334) isolated from the rectum.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThanks to the progress and decreasing costs in genome sequencing technologies, more than 250,000 bacterial genomes are currently available in public databases, covering most, if not all, of the major human-associated phylogenetic groups of these microorganisms, pathogenic or not. In addition, for many of them, sequences from several strains of a given species are available, thus enabling to evaluate their genetic diversity and study their evolution. In addition, the significant cost reduction of bacterial whole genome sequencing as well as the rapid increase in the number of available bacterial genomes have prompted the development of pangenomic software tools.

Muscle, liver and glycogen metabolism can be normal in athletes with diabetes with good overall glucose management, and exercise performance can be facilitated by modifications to insulin dose and nutrition. However, maintaining normal glucose levels during training, travel and competition can be a major challenge for athletes living with type 1 diabetes.

Bariatric surgery is the only treatment for severe obesity recognized as truly effective, and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass is one of the most frequent procedures. The aim of this study is to present a 3D laparoscopic bypass technique with intracorporal anastomosis, performed completely by hand. After positioning the patient and creating the 20 mL gastric pouch, the gastrojejunal anastomosis is performed with two continuous sutures of resorbable V-Lock 3.

Methods: We retrospectively report on 1061 SARS-CoV-2 positive tested patients treated for at least three days with the following regimen: HCQ (200 mg three times daily for ten days) + AZ (500 mg on day 1 followed by 250 mg daily for the next four days). Outcomes were death, clinical worsening (transfer to ICU, and >10 day hospitalization) and viral shedding persistence (>10 days).
Chitosan is a polymer obtained by deacetylation of chitin, and chitin is one of the major components of the arthropod cuticle. Chitin and chitosan are both polysaccharides and are considered to be an interesting class of biosourced materials. This is evident as chitosan has already demonstrated utility in various applications in both industrial and biomedical domains.

As no genome sequence was previously available for this species, we performed whole-genome sequencing. The bone marrow is replete with myeloid and lymphoid linage cells that provide a fertile niche for metastatic cancer cells promoting their survival and growth. Here, we discuss the role of macrophages and T cells in pro- and anti-tumoral mechanisms, their interaction to support cancer cell growth, and their contribution to the development of skeletal metastases.

During the 2005-2015 period, we collected sera samples from 821 homeless adults living in shelters.

Methods: RC was cultured on L929 cells.
Strain Marseille-P2082, an anaerobic, non-motile, asporogenous, Gram-negative, coccoid bacterium was isolated from the faeces of a 33 year-old obese French woman before bariatric surgery. Methods: We conducted an uncontrolled, non-comparative, observational study in a cohort of 80 relatively mildly infected inpatients treated with a combination of hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin over a period of at least three days, with three main measurements: clinical outcome, contagiousness as assessed by PCR and culture, and length of stay in infectious disease unit (IDU).
Results: All patients improved clinically except one 86 year-old patient who died, and one 74 year-old patient still in intensive care.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFBreast cancer (BCa) cells disseminating to the bone can remain dormant and resistant to treatments for many years until relapsing as bone metastases. The tyrosine kinase receptor TIE2 induces the dormancy of hematopoietic stem cells, and could also induce the dormancy of BCa cells. However, TIE2 is also a target for anti-angiogenic treatments in ongoing clinical trials, and its inhibition could then restart the proliferation of dormant BCa cells in bone.
