Background: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' have sustained their cultural practices for over 60,000 years which fundamentally impacts their health and wellbeing. Recent literature emphasizes cultural connection as a contributor to good public health, yet the mechanisms through which cultural engagement promotes health and wellbeing remain underexplored. This study investigates the health and wellbeing outcomes associated with Aboriginal peoples' participation in cultural camps in New South Wales (Australia), focusing on the role of cultural determinants of health.

This article is written from the perspectives of a Yuwaalaraay/Gamilaraay cultural knowledge holder and a Yuin Djirringanj cultural knowledge holder from New South Wales, Australia. It explores the concept of cultural health, and the need to shift towards centring culture in every aspect of Aboriginal health and wellbeing. The three elements of cultural health are discussed as Country which includes lands, waters, skies, and all entities within; people, and their freedom, and ability to express and maintain continuing connections to culture and Country; and culture which encompasses identity, language, and knowledges, and is maintained and strengthened through active connection to Country, and cultural practices.

Background And Purpose: The addition of interstitial needles to intracavitary gynecologic (GYN) high dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy has been shown to improve target coverage and organs-at-risk (OAR) sparing. However, no commercial solution allows real-time guidance of interstitial catheter placement. This phantom study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of an electromagnetic (EM) tracking system guidance workflow for GYN HDR brachytherapy treatment in a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and real-time transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) fusion scenario.

Mosquitoes visit flowers to obtain sugar or other nutrients and therefore possibly serve as major or minor pollinators of some plant species. They also often derive plant nutrients from other sources, such as extrafloral nectaries and honeydew. In a few cases, the plant-mosquito relationship is close, and mosquito pollination has been confirmed.

Elevated temperatures persisted for an anomalously protracted interval following pulsed volcanic carbon release associated with the end-Permian mass extinction, deviating from the expected timescale of climate recovery following a carbon injection event. Here, we present evidence for enhanced reverse weathering-a CO source-following the end-Permian mass extinction based on the lithium isotopic composition of marine shales and cherts. We find that the average lithium isotopic composition of Lower Triassic marine shales is significantly elevated relative to that of all other previously measured Phanerozoic marine shales.

Resolving the phylogenetic relationships of early amniotes, in particular stem reptiles, remains a difficult problem. Three-dimensional morphological analysis of well-preserved stem-reptile specimens can reveal important anatomical data and clarify regions of phylogeny. Here, we present the first thorough description of the unusual early Permian stem reptile Bolosaurus major, including the first comprehensive description of a bolosaurid braincase.

Article Synopsis
  • Logged and disturbed forests, often seen as degraded, actually harbor significant biodiversity and should not be dismissed in conservation efforts.
  • A study in Sabah, Malaysia examined the effects of logging intensity on 1,681 species, revealing two important conservation thresholds.
  • Lightly logged forests (less than 29% biomass removed) can recover well, while heavily degraded forests (over 68% biomass removed) may need more intensive recovery efforts, highlighting the varying conservation values of logged forests.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates how extinction selectivity during the Permian-Triassic mass extinction affected different marine animals, focusing on their oxygen-carrying proteins.
  • - Marine species with lower oxygen-carrying capacity (like hemerythrin) faced more severe extinction and size reductions compared to those with higher capacities (like hemoglobin or hemocyanin).
  • - Findings indicate that animals with higher oxygen-carrying abilities were better equipped to survive hypoxia and ocean acidification, playing a key role in shaping the transition to the Modern Evolutionary Fauna.

We estimate producer and consumer surplus changes due to a possible GM maize import ban in Chile, which produces only non-GM grains for internal use. Without foreign non-GM sources, the ban's effect on domestic maize prices would be so significant as to induce Chile to switch from net exporter to net importer of animal products. Fixed factor owners in farm production would benefit significantly, although non-GM maize imports would moderate gains.

AbstractHosts and brood parasites are a classic example of conflict. Parasites typically provide no offspring care after laying eggs, imposing costs on hosts. Female subsocial wasps () alternate between initiating their own nests and using an "intruder" tactic of replacing eggs in nests of unrelated conspecifics.
