Background: Depressive disorders are a major public health issue in Western societies, particularly among adolescents, young adults and women. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated mental health challenges, increasing depression and anxiety symptoms, especially in younger people. This study focuses on the hard-hit Emilia-Romagna Region (ERR) in Italy, examining changes in antidepressant (AD) drug use post-COVID-19 to understand the pandemic's effect on mental health.

This study aimed to describe the symptoms of depersonalization in a non-clinical sample and to operationalize depersonalization as a regulatory mechanism. This article introduces the Depersonalization Mechanism Scale, 41-item measure developed to assess one's tendency for depersonalization in response to overstimulation.

We relied on two samples of Polish employees (N = 526, 47% female; N = 164, 64% female) and one sample of Ukrainian employees (N = 372, 73% female). In all samples, the ODI exhibited essential unidimensionality and high total-score reliability (e.

Design: Population-based retrospective study.
Setting: Adult patients, affected by at least 1 of 32 prevalent chronic conditions, residing in the Emilia-Romagna Region in Italy, during the years 2020 (N=1 791 189, 47.
Objectives: We aimed to provide a region-wide comprehensive account of the direct effects of COVID-19 on chronic disease patients, in terms of disease incidence, severity and mortality, over a 2-year pandemic period (2020-2021).
Design: Population-based retrospective study.
Setting/participants: Adult patients, affected by at least 1 of 32 prevalent chronic conditions, residing in the Emilia-Romagna Region in Italy, during the years 2020 (N=1 791 189, 47.
Objectives: To quantitatively measure liver biopsy adequacy requirements and the effect of a teaching intervention that uses a virtual biopsy platform.
Methods: A library of virtual liver biopsies was created using digital whole-slide, trichrome-stained tissue sections from liver resection material and QuPath image analysis software. Blinded participants staged fibrosis on the virtual biopsies before and after a teaching intervention.
Background: Approximately two-thirds of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) complain different degrees of balance dysfunction, but some of them are able to withstand considerable disease burden without an overt balance impairment. Here, we tested the hypothesis that brain and cognitive reserve lessen the effect of MS-related tissue damage on balance control.
Methods: We measured the postural sway of 148 patients and 74 sex- and age-matched healthy controls by force platform under different conditions reflecting diverse neuro-pathological substrates of balance dysfunction: eyes opened (EO), eyes closed (EC), and while performing the Stroop test, i.
The pathologists' lexicon is paramount in connecting pathologists, clinicians, and patients. It is an implicit part of pathology diagnoses, and, therefore, a significant component of residency training. We recognize that learning and honing this art is acquired through experience but is also influenced by many factors, such as confidence, familiarity with descriptive terminology, among others.

However, a more representative population should also include cancer patients who die from causes other than cancer, as they may develop other life-limiting chronic conditions leading to terminal prognosis.
Aim: This study aimed at refining the assessment of the number of cancer patients potentially in need of palliative care, by linked hospital and death data.
In 2020, the number of deaths increased in Italy, mainly because of the COVID-19 pandemic; mortality was among the highest in Europe, with a clear heterogeneity among regions and socio-demographic strata. The present work aims to describe trends in mortality and to quantify excess mortality variability over time and in relation to demographics, pre-existent chronic conditions and care setting of the Emilia-Romagna region (Northern Italy). This is a registry-based cross-sectional study comparing the 2020 observed mortality with figures of the previous five years by age, sex, month, place of death, and chronicity.

However, this model is underutilised in patients with haematological malignancies. We investigated the presence and described the frequency of quality indicators for palliative care and end-of-life care in a cohort of patients with acute myeloid leukaemia receiving early palliative supportive care.

Methods: Based on Emilia-Romagna mortality registry and administrative data from all the hospitals from January 2017 to June 2020, we analysed: i) temporal trend in MI hospital admissions; ii) characteristics, management, and 30-day mortality of MI patients; iii) out-of-hospital mortality for cardiac cause.
Background: multimorbidity analysis provides essential information to support health policy in the field of prevention, clinical management, and resources allocation in order to guarantee personalized and adequate strategies for patients with multiple chronic pathologies.
Objectives: to present the application of a methodology based upon data retrieved in healthcare administrative databases to investigate the extent of multimorbidity (coexistence of two or more chronic condition), evaluating its epidemiology, its impact on healthcare resources, and identifying patterns of associative multimorbidity, based on non-random association among chronic diseases. DESIGN: observational study based on regional healthcare data record linkage.

The dramatic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic extends beyond the risk of deaths related to virus infection. Excess deaths from other causes, particularly cardiovascular deaths, have been reported worldwide. Our study based on administrative databases of the Emilia-Romagna region demonstrates a 17% excess of out-of-hospital cardiac deaths in the first 2020 semester with a peak of +62% on April.

We observed that gross room personnel desire follow-up and feedback on the specimens they gross or autopsies they perform. Our goal was to create a sustainable educational program for gross room personnel.

Detection is critical for treatment and may require immunohistochemical (IHC) staining when organisms are not visible on hematoxylin and eosin. We have encountered cases in which IHC for Helicobacter pylori failed to demonstrate curvilinear or coccoid organisms, but did show a reticular pattern of immunoreactivity involving the underlying germinal centers.

We present a large series of dedicated endoscopic resection using band ligation (EMR-B) of esophageal GCTs. Patients diagnosed with esophageal GCTs between 2002 and 2019 were identified using a prospectively collected pathology database.
