Cervical artery dissection (CAD) and Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO) are important causes of stroke in young patients. Although PFO is considered an independent risk factor for cerebral infarction in young adults with cryptogenic stroke, other concomitant causes may be necessary to cause brain injury.
