Aims: We offer a literature-driven, empirically informed, and highly warranted recommendation for a multilevel approach tailored to nurse practitioners. This approach aimed to drive change at the individual level (nurse practitioner), dyadic level (nurse-patient therapeutic relationship), and systems level (organisational culture, education, and policy) to strengthen nurse practitioners' capacity to deliver optimal opioid use disorder care.

Background: The opioid overdose epidemic is a global public health crisis, with the United States facing the most severe impact.

Article Synopsis
  • * A quality improvement project aimed at using academic detailing (AD) was conducted to educate primary care providers on screening, referral, and treatment for opioid use disorder, alongside available community resources.
  • * While the project did not lead to increased screening or prescribing practices for opioid use disorder, it successfully improved providers' knowledge of local resources, revealing time constraints as a key barrier to implementing such services.

The clinical experiences, feedback, and assessment that veterinary students receive during final year rotations have a significant impact on whether they will achieve entry-level competency at the time of graduation. In this study, a cross-sectional survey was administered to American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) member institutions to collect baseline data about current feedback and assessment practices to identify key target areas for future research and educational interventions. Responses were received from 89 faculty and 155 students distributed across 25 universities.

The Competency-Based Veterinary Education (CBVE) Analyze Working Group of the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) Council on Outcomes-based Veterinary Education (COVE) has developed a CBVE assessment toolkit. The toolkit is designed to provide curriculum committees and individual instructors with an opportune intersection of the CBVE domains of competence and various assessment techniques. College-wide curriculum committees can use the toolkit to guide programs of assessment in the larger unit, ensuring that assessment methods are aligned with intended learning outcomes throughout the curriculum.

Metabolic syndrome is a group of disorders-hypertension, dyslipidemia, obesity, and insulin resistance-that together increase the risk of coronary heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. Although ~60% of cancer patients have metabolic syndrome, which increases their risk of mortality, oncology providers lack clear guidance about its management. The development of metabolic syndrome lifestyle interventions requires a better understanding of these patients' knowledge, attitudes, and intervention preferences in order to inform management.

Background And Aims: Clinical trials support injectable opioid agonist treatment (iOAT) for individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD) for whom other pharmacological management approaches are not well-suited. However, despite substantial research indicating that person-centered care improves engagement, retention and health outcomes for individuals with OUD, structural requirements (e.g.

The large-scale experimental measures of variant functional assays submitted to MaveDB have the potential to provide key information for resolving variants of uncertain significance, but the reporting of results relative to assayed sequence hinders their downstream utility. The Atlas of Variant Effects Alliance mapped multiplexed assays of variant effect data to human reference sequences, creating a robust set of machine-readable homology mappings. This method processed approximately 2.

Brain somatic variants in SLC35A2, an intracellular UDP-galactose transporter, are commonly identified mutations associated with drug-resistant neocortical epilepsy and developmental brain malformations, including focal cortical dysplasia type I and mild malformation of cortical development with oligodendroglial hyperplasia in epilepsy (MOGHE). However, the causal effects of altered SLC35A2 function on cortical development remain untested. We hypothesized that focal Slc35a2 knockout (KO) or knockdown (KD) in the developing mouse cortex would disrupt cortical development and change network excitability.

  • The study aims to understand growth patterns, developmental profiles, and medical outcomes for children in the UK born with neurodevelopmental genetic syndromes, addressing gaps in existing clinical knowledge.
  • It involves a multicenter cohort study running from 2023 to 2026, recruiting children aged 6 months to 16 years with specific genetic variants, using questionnaires and clinical assessments to gather data.
  • Results will be shared at conferences and submitted for publication, contributing valuable insights for clinicians regarding monitoring and treatment of affected children.

Computational methods for assessing the likely impacts of mutations, known as variant effect predictors (VEPs), are widely used in the assessment and interpretation of human genetic variation, as well as in other applications like protein engineering. Many different VEPs have been released to date, and there is tremendous variability in their underlying algorithms and outputs, and in the ways in which the methodologies and predictions are shared. This leads to considerable challenges for end users in knowing which VEPs to use and how to use them.

Modern Pentathlon (MP) includes an equestrian Jumping discipline, with horses drawn blindly by unfamiliar riders. At the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Summer Games, concerns regarding inadequate horsemanship generated adverse publicity for MP. Conventional stadium Jumping in Tokyo provided an opportunity for comparison of the two closest Olympic equestrian Jumping disciplines.

The network formation of four epoxy-rich formulations of the structural isomers of triglycidyl aminophenol and diaminodiphenyl sulfone has been monitored by using two complementary techniques, near-infrared spectroscopy and resin temperature monitoring. The differences between these networks have been described using the concentration of epoxide, primary amine, secondary amine, and tertiary amine functional groups and the actual temperature of the resin compared to the oven temperature during the cure schedule. It was found that initially, the 3,3'-diaminodiphenyl sulfone (33'DDS) formulations were more reactive and primary amines were completely consumed before the 4,4'-diaminodiphenyl sulfone (44'DDS) formulations.

Clinical classification of genomic variants identified on sequencing is often challenging, with many variants classified as Variants of Uncertain Significance (VUS) on account of insufficient evidence. Advances in sequencing and gene synthesis has made feasible multiplexed assays of variant effect (MAVEs), which quantify the functional impact of many thousands of genomic variants in a single experiment. These assays and the functional evidence they generate have the potential to empower more accurate clinical variant classification.

Purpose: Despite increasing use of cannabis, literature on perioperative effects is lagging. We compared active cannabis-smokers versus non-smokers and postoperative wound morbidity and reoperations following open abdominal wall reconstruction (AWR).

Methods: Patients who underwent open, clean, AWR with transversus abdominis release and retromuscular synthetic mesh placement at our institution between January 2014 and May 2022 were identified using the Abdominal Core Health Quality Collaborative database.

Objective: To characterize and quantify changes in elastic properties and in vivo pressure characteristics of pressure regulating balloons (PRB) over time, we conducted an analysis of the mechanical characteristics of the PRB after removal from patients for revision surgery.

Methods: Pressure and elasticity characteristics of new and used 61-70 cm HO PRBs were analyzed. Pressure-volume curves were generated using commercially available urodynamics equipment.

We hypothesized that focal knockout (KO) or knockdown (KD) of in the developing mouse cortex would disrupt cerebral cortical development through altered neuronal migration and cause changes in network excitability.

Purpose: The terminology used for gene-disease curation and variant annotation to describe inheritance, allelic requirement, and both sequence and functional consequences of a variant is currently not standardized. There is considerable discrepancy in the literature and across clinical variant reporting in the derivation and application of terms. Here, we standardize the terminology for the characterization of disease-gene relationships to facilitate harmonized global curation and to support variant classification within the ACMG/AMP framework.

Introduction: Injectable opioid agonist treatment (iOAT) is an evidence-based treatment that serves an important minority of people with opioid use disorder who require specialized care. Unique to iOAT care is the consistency with which clients access treatment (up to three times daily), a condition that creates repeated opportunities for health care engagement. To date, no study has examined therapeutic relationships in this life saving, nurse-led treatment that can have lasting implications in the equitable delivery of other forms of addictions care.
